Sally Field, 77, returns to social media after being inspired by presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris

Sally Field has returned to social media after being inspired by Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

The 77-year-old posted a message on Instagram last week announcing that the 59-year-old Harris had officially accepted as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 US elections and gave a speech at the Democratic National Party Convention.

“I haven’t been on social media. Not since public toilet paper was given to our former thug of a president. But ‘hope is making a comeback.’ So here I am. This is me. And this is my dog, Dash. Buckle up,” Sally posted along with two photos of her dog Dash.

Field shared a photo of herself in front of a television as Harris accepts the nomination in her second post.

“Hope is here. Right in the room with me and my 18-year-old, recently registered grandson to vote. Shouting it from the highest mountaintop I can find,” Field wrote in the caption to her 5,000 or so followers.

“Vote for our country, our children and grandchildren. Vote for the earth and women and human rights. Vote for democracy. Vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Please dear God. (And I will be your best friend.),” she added.

Field criticized Donald Trump, 78, after the 2016 election for his inexperience and hypocrisy.

“If you look at his past, if you look at his history, there is no evidence that he can do anything that he says he’s going to do,” she said at the time on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix show.

“He has shown himself to be everything he accuses Hillary Clinton of being and has accused her of being. It is now clear that he is all of those things, everything that he accused her of,” she added.

Field won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her roles in the 1979 film Norma Rae and the 1984 film Places In The Heart.

She was also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Mary Todd Lincoln in the 2012 film Lincoln.

Field in Norma Rae played a factory worker who fought for union protection and had used her platform to support women’s rights for years.

She was arrested in 2019 while participating in Jane Fonda’s climate protests in Washington, DC
