Horror as a fashion retailer is stabbed while trying to stop a robbery at a designer store in David Jones – while the police are on the hunt for a man and woman still on the run
A saleswoman has been stabbed while trying to stop a robbery at the David Jones Emporium in Melbourne.
The incident took place at the popular Bourke Street Mall department store, in the city’s CBD, just before noon on Tuesday.
The Saint Laurent saleswoman tried to stop a man and woman from stealing a handbag.
He intervened when he was then stabbed in the arm by the man.
Victoria Police released a statement saying the worker is in a serious condition.
“A male member of staff confronted a man and woman who stole a designer handbag from a department store on Little Bourke Street shortly before 12pm,” the statement read.
The male thief stabbed the staff member in the arm before fleeing with his accomplice.
“The staff member was seriously injured and taken to hospital.”
No arrests have been made as the duo are still on the run, but Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the team member and we are assisting the police in their investigation into this incident.
“Across the country, retailers are seeing increasing incidents of theft and violence against employees.
“This is completely unacceptable and we continue to cooperate with the police and have appropriate security measures in place in our store network.”
