Saints QB Derek Carr fined $14k for grabbing his crotch while celebrating touchdown
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has been fined $14,000 for celebrating his touchdown at the end of the second quarter of Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.
After Carr perfectly executed the quarterback sneak to reach the end zone at AT&T Stadium, the early season NFL MVP candidate showed he’s a Michael Jackson fan.
Carr pulled out one of the King of Pop’s signature dance moves, a leg kick and a crotch grab, the latter of which the NFL deemed inappropriate.
Carr was not penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct during the game. The NFL reviewed the footage and ruled his celebration of the foul was fine.
Jackson’s dance moves inspired a generation, with Carr as far from the first athlete to use them on the field.

The crotch grab against the Cowboys was too much for the NFL to watch without a penalty
In 2023, Carr signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints, so he won’t shy away from the $14,000 fine, even if he disagrees with the principle.
Carr may have plenty of opportunities to perform the moonwalk or the side shuffle from “Bad” in other games. Luckily, Jackson has enough signature dance moves that the NFL shouldn’t find offensive.
In 2017, then-Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was forced to apologize after grabbing his crotch on the sideline to taunt Kansas players.
That crotch grab didn’t come with a penalty, as Mayfield was on the verge of winning the Heisman Trophy. Carr didn’t use his crotch grab as a taunt to Cowboys players.
Several people on social media have once again dubbed the NFL the “No Fun League” after they fined Carr for celebrating the game.
Carr’s next chance to party likely comes Sunday, when the Saints host the Eagles.
