A young boy is fighting for his life in hospital after he was found unconscious in a backyard pool last night.
The three-year-old was pulled from the pool at a home in Moorebank, south-west Sydney, shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday.
Those at the scene performed CPR on the child until emergency services arrived shortly afterwards and rushed him to the Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital in Randwick.
NSW Police confirmed the boy remains in a critical condition today.
“Police attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command established a crime scene and investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident,” a NSW Police statement read.
Several distressed family members were seen speaking to officers and paramedics as the boy was placed on a stretcher in an ambulance.
A child’s life jacket was seen abandoned at the backyard pool.

“We were in the backyard and we heard a lot of screaming,” neighbor Valeria said.
“I shouted, ‘Is everything okay?’ because they were partying.
“I thought maybe someone had thrown someone into the pool, but then we heard a lot of screaming.”
Several other neighbors also heard the screams from the house and rushed to help.
“We went there to check and apparently a little boy fell into the pool and they were trying to revive him,” Valeria said.
“The neighbor went in to try to resuscitate the boy while the ambulance arrived.”
The near-drowning occurred just hours after a man drowned on a beach at Catherine Hill Bay in NSW’s Lake Macquarie region.
Lifeguards and paramedics provided CPR to the man, 55, who was pulled from the water but could not be revived.
