Sad twist in search for missing elite private school student Luca Bennett after he was swept off the rocks on Christmas Eve
The search for a missing teenage boy who ended up in the ocean on Christmas Eve has now shifted to a recovery operation.
Luca Bennett, 15, was playing with friends at North Avoca Rocks on NSW’s Central Coast on Christmas Eve when the group was washed into the water.
Emergency services said Thursday morning that they had scaled back their operation to a recovery effort.
The Scots College student, a promising basketball player, was playing on the rocks at Avoca Beach on Wednesday afternoon when he was swept off the rocks by a ferocious wave.

The search, which involved NSW Police personnel, NSW Ambulance, local surf lifesavers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (pictured), searched the water where he was last seen.
