Sabrina Carpenter is left VERY red-faced after ‘cringeworthy’ gesture from New Zealand radio host: ‘The fear in her eyes!’

Sabrina Carpenter was left red-faced after a New Zealand radio host made a “painful” gesture during an interview with the pop star.

The 25-year-old Espresso hitmaker sat down with DJ Zane Lowe, 51, to promote her new album Short ‘n Sweet, but started the conversation with an awkward look.

She appeared to panic when Zane suddenly pulled out a guitar as she tried to hold him back as he serenaded her, in what fans described as ‘every girl’s worst nightmare’.

During the awkward moment on The Zane Lowe ShowShe looked at him in shock with wide eyes and exclaimed, ‘Oh, oh my God, what’s going on here? Oh no!’

As he began to strum chords on his guitar, the panicked singer added, “Wait, do you do this often? Are you going to serenade me?”

Zane assured her that he wouldn’t “sing to her,” but that he would “talk about how it all started,” to which Sabrina nervously added, “While… she’s singing?”

“There’s a lot of ways to start an interview and there’s a lot of ways to start a song,” Zane said bizarrely as he began playing her own song Dumb and Poetic on guitar.

“Oh no… I’m going to cry,” Sabrina said with a laugh, before adding, “Did you learn this right away?”

To which Zane – who wasn’t quite singing – replied thoughtfully: ‘The chords are etched in me, as they are in millions of people, because they are so beautiful and amazing.’

After the “painful” sounding serenade, Sabrina politely thanked Zane for his tribute, but fans weren’t really convinced, calling the moment a “nightmare.”

One viewer said in the comments: ‘The fear in her eyes when that man pulls out a guitar, every girl’s worst nightmare.’

Another commented: ‘That was really embarrassing,’ while a third wrote: ‘I get the creeps every time Zane does this.’

A fourth said of Sabrina’s reaction: “She’s very real though,” while another added: “Yeah… it’s kind of a nightmare but her reaction made up for it.”

However, some fans saw the humor in it and praised Zane for his light-hearted interview techniques.

“This teasing?! Zane really knows how to make artists feel incredibly comfortable,” one of them said as they showed their support for the radio host.

Another added: ‘Zane is absolutely the best interviewer there is, he always gets the best out of every artist, it’s a masterclass in excellence.’

Sabrina had another huge success this week when she released her new song Taste and the accompanying video clip, inspired by a horror film, to great fanfare on Friday.

The video, in which she shares a steamy kiss with Jenna Ortega, has racked up more than 1.5 million views on YouTube in just three hours.

Meanwhile, the lyrics tell a story that may shed light on Sabrina’s own love life, as they reveal racy details about an ex-boyfriend.

Although she doesn’t name a specific man in the lyrics of Taste, she tells a juicy story about an ex who got back together with a former flame.

Sabrina’s lyrics are addressed to the woman with whom his ex rekindled his old romance, and her message to her love rival is devastating.

“I heard you guys got back together and if that’s true, you’re gonna have to taste me when he kisses you,” she teases the other woman in the chorus.

In the music video, rivals Sabrina and Jenna repeatedly try to kill each other in increasingly gruesome scenes, while fighting over a man, played by Rohan Campbell.

At one point, the two women kiss passionately, after which Jenna pushes Sabrina away and kills her. She then realizes that she accidentally killed her boyfriend.

The video ends with the two women walking away from the funeral of the man they were arguing about together with mischievous smiles.

The video appears to be inspired by Death Becomes Her, the 1992 camp classic starring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as two immortal women in a hilariously gruesome feud.

Taste comes shortly after rumours emerged that Sabrina had split from her boyfriend, Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan, over his ‘party animal’ lifestyle.

The couple were linked late last year and confirmed they were together at a Grammys party in February, before Barry starred in Sabrina’s music video for Please Please Please.

They’ve barely spoken about it publicly until now, but last week a source claimed they broke up because Sabrina became annoyed by Barry’s partying.

“Barry acts like an idiot when he’s drunk and Sabrina was getting more and more frustrated,” an insider claimed of the split.

“He’s always been a party animal and Sabrina got fed up with his antics. She’s climbing the charts and putting herself first as she prepares for her tour next month,” the source told The Sun.
