Sabrina Carpenter dons plunging black-sequin gown on Tonight Show as she drops new album Short n’ Sweet

Sabrina Carpenter is gearing up to perform The Tonight Show in Manhattan on Thursday while promoting her sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet.

The 25-year-old pop star wore her petite 5-foot-10 frame in a plunging, backless, black sequined dress selected by stylist Ron Hartleben.

Sabrina sang a jazzy, minimalist version of her #1 hit Please Please Please while sitting barefoot on a white grand piano.

Carpenter eventually stood up after finishing the song and explained that she had told her boyfriend not to make any mistakes and not to tarnish her reputation.

Hairstylist Scott King styled the Espresso hitmaker’s signature flaxen, fringed mane, while makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez styled her complexion for her fourth appearance on the NBC talk show.

Sabrina opted for a baby blue top with a sparkly collar, matching shorts and sky-high platform heels for the interview segment with host Jimmy Fallon.

“I mean honestly, it really feels like a self-titled album to me,” Carpenter said said from her 12-song album, released Friday at midnight ET.

“Well, also because Short n’ Sweet is like Sabrina in another language for me. It really feels like all of these stories and memories are really blunt, really direct, really fun, and just some of the best memories I’ve had over the last two years writing it, so I’m so excited for everyone to hear it!”

That same evening, the former Disney Channel star — who taught herself to play piano and guitar using YouTube tutorials — shared a BTS slideshow of the making of Short n’ Sweet featuring collaborators Jack Antonoff, Amy Allen, Julia Michaels, John Ryan, Julian Bunetta, and Steph Jones.

Sabrina – who has 76.3 million followers on social media – wrote on Instagram: ‘The making of Short n’ Sweet was one of the most special, honest, up-and-down, silly, and fun experiences of my life! I thought that if something was funny enough to make me laugh, maybe it belonged in a song. Happy or sad! Thanks to my brilliant [and] talented friends.’

On Friday, she will finally unveil the music video for her next single Taste, starring Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega. The video apparently sees her taking a naughty shower with Carpenter’s man.

“It was inspired by one of my favorite movies, and she was a huge fan of the movie,” the Pennsylvania-born blonde explained of the casting.

“And I’m so happy that you guys are seeing this video. You have no idea. I think this is my favorite video I’ve ever done!”

Sabrina, who has 75.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, can’t wait to kick off her “first ever arena tour” with the 47-date Short n’ Sweet Tour on September 23 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

“I’m so small and the stage is so big, so I don’t really know what to do other than I want it to be the best show for everyone in there,” Carpenter enthused.

But first, the Hot Ones champion will perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which air on September 10 from UBS Arena in New York.

Sabrina will compete for six Moonperson trophies – song of the year, artist of the year and best pop music – as well as technical awards for best editing, best direction and best art direction.

On a personal level, Carpenter reportedly split from Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan about three weeks ago, “because his partying lifestyle was getting in the way of their relationship.”

“Barry acts like an idiot when he’s drunk and Sabrina was getting more and more frustrated,” a source said The sun last saturday.

“He’s always been a party animal and Sabrina got tired of his antics. She’s climbing the charts and putting herself first as she prepares for her tour next month.”

The SKIMS brand ambassador first met the 31-year-old Irishman at the Givenchy fashion show during Paris Fashion Week on September 28, before they were spotted on a date in Brentwood on December 3.
