A popular tourist destination has been closed while police search for the body of a suspected murder victim.

On Monday, SA Police revealed that they had received unconfirmed reports suggesting that the remains of a man who has been missing for more than two years may be in the Myponga reservoir.

Jeff Mundy, 36, was last seen in the Seaford and Sellicks Beach areas on December 19, 2020.

According to police, at the time of his disappearance, Mr. Mundy was being actively sought by members of the southern suburban drug community.

Last year, police revealed that Mr Mundy had been held captive in a container frequented by drug dealers in Lonsdale before he was allegedly murdered, one of three deaths Taskforce Southern is investigating.

Major Crimes Investigation Division Detective Superintendent Des Bray said police had received tips that her body had been dumped next to the dam wall.

“If it’s there, we’ll find it,” Superintendent Bray said.

“I am pleased to report that we have had good cooperation from individuals in the criminal community, whose information has led us to search this location today.

“Even if we are unable to locate Jeff’s remains, we may be able to locate weapons or other potential evidence to aid the investigation, or at least we may exclude this location and consider other areas that have been suggested.”

The task force began in 2021 to investigate a series of violent crimes, including the death of Mr. Mundy, along with two other alleged murder victims: Trevor King and Robert Atkins.

The body of Trevor King, who police say was held, tortured and subjected to extreme violence, was found in 2020, and four people have been arrested in connection with the matter.

Superintendent Bray said the search in the Myponga reservoir could take up to five days to complete, with seven divers working in extreme conditions to cover all the areas needed.

“Our experienced divers will be meticulous and ensure that every part of the area of interest is fully recorded.”

SA Police detectives are appealing to anyone with information on the location of Mr Mundy, or knowledge of any of the suspected murders that Taskforce Southern is investigating to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

During the investigation, the police arrested 65 people, on 95 charges ranging from illegal detention, money laundering, blackmail, assault, drugs and robbery.

Police also revealed that 40 firearms had been recovered and more arrests were expected.

A $200,000 reward is available for information leading to the conviction of the people who killed Mr. King.
