Vanessa Feltz commented, “Oh my God, I’m sorry to hear it!” Praying for a speedy recovery while Ruth Langsford wrote on behalf of herself and husband Eamonn Holmes: ‘Oh no… dear Linda. Sending you both all our love.’

Linda has been battling Crohn’s disease since she was 30, a condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system.

She often has to undergo multiple surgeries to remove damaged parts of her intestines and takes countless medications every day for her condition.

Rylan’s mother also developed sepsis in 2018, which nearly killed her.

In 2027, Linda was hospitalized for six weeks after a procedure related to her Crohn’s disease went wrong.

Rylan previously told the Daily Mail about his mother’s battle with the disease, which has affected many aspects of her life.

He explained: ‘My mother lost her job because of the disease – it completely defines her life. When she was diagnosed, it really hit her hard because it wasn’t picked up early enough.

“The sooner you pick it up, the easier it is to control. I also grew up with the disease because she was sick – it is life threatening. It is scary.

“It could be hard when I was young because sometimes she couldn’t go on field trips and other times she was so embarrassed about her symptoms that I couldn’t have my friends stay over.”

Crohn’s disease is a chronic condition that affects about one in 1,200 people in the UK and causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system, although it is most common in the gut.

It causes symptoms such as diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, weight loss and fatigue.

Linda has surged in popularity since her first appearance alongside him on Celebrity Gogglebox in 2021, but Rylan previously admitted that she has no clue about her fame.

He writes in a Sunday Times Magazine article: ‘She doesn’t care about her fame, she doesn’t really know. She’s not on social media and I’ll never allow that.”

Rylan added, “My mom, Linda, is my biggest fucking headache, but I don’t know what I’d do without her.

‘With me she has the best of both worlds: I am a son and a daughter. I can talk to her about makeup and blow-dry her hair, and I can tell her to fix it up. She is an obligation.

“She’s the ultimate cross between Catherine Tate’s grandmother and Gavin & Stacey’s Pam.”

CROHN’S DISEASE EXPLAINED

Crohn’s disease is a long-term condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system.

Inflammation usually occurs in the last part of the small or large intestine, but can affect any part of the digestive system.

Common symptoms can include:

  • diarrhea
  • stomach ache
  • tiredness (extreme tiredness)
  • unintentional weight loss
  • blood and mucus in your stool (faeces)

Remission occurs when people with the disease go without symptoms for long periods of time. However, these periods may be followed by flare-ups of symptoms.

Why it happens

The exact cause of Crohn’s disease is unknown. However, research shows that a combination of factors may be responsible. These include:

genetics – Genes you inherit from your parents can increase your risk of developing Crohn’s disease

The immune system – the inflammation may be caused by a problem with the immune system, causing it to attack healthy bacteria in the gut

previous infection – a previous infection can cause an abnormal immune system response

smoking – Smokers with Crohn’s disease tend to have more severe symptoms than non-smokers

environmental factors – Crohn’s disease is most common in westernized countries such as Britain, and least common in poorer parts of the world such as Africa, suggesting that the environment plays a role
