Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary has said he would “happy” to introduce a two-drink limit on his company’s flights, as long as the same rules applied to airport bars.
O’Leary admitted the budget airline saw a spike in violent disorder among its passengers last summer, with flights to party destination Ibiza often the wildest.
He told Sky News he would “love to introduce (the limit) tomorrow.”
‘If the price of imposing a drink limit at the airport where the problem arises is imposing a drink limit on the plane, then we have no problem with that.
‘The real question is how do we prevent these people from getting drunk at airports, especially as we’ve had a huge increase in air traffic control delays this summer.

“The real question is how do we stop these people getting drunk at airports, particularly as we’ve had a huge increase in air traffic control delays this summer,” O’Leary said (File photo)
“They get on board with too much alcohol in their system. If we identify them as drunk on board, we don’t serve them alcohol. But that doesn’t solve the problem.”
On Sunday, a flight from Manchester to Ibiza was diverted to Toulouse, France, after a drunken Briton drank vodka, punched flight attendants and spat at customers.
The man and his wife, neither of whom have been identified, were dragged away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The couple were seated about 10 rows apart and the man spent the first hour of the flight drinking “duty-free vodka,” according to a witness.
A passenger said the man got into an argument with a male cabin crew member and punched him in the face.
He then began ‘kicking’ and the passenger described the drunk man as ‘out of control’.
Flight attendants reportedly warned him that the plane would be diverted if he did not calm down, to which he responded, “I don’t give a damn.”

After he left the plane, his partner began harassing, hitting and shouting at another passenger
The drunk Briton attacked another passenger and spat at a woman while being held down. The disturbing incident lasted for around 40 minutes.
But after he left the plane, his partner began to harass another passenger, hitting and shouting at him.
Police physically restrained the woman, who was walking barefoot, before taking her away as well.
The Ryanair aircraft remained on the tarmac for just over an hour and a half before resuming flight to Ibiza.
A Ryanair spokesman said at the time: ‘This flight from Manchester to Ibiza was diverted to Toulouse after a small group of passengers caused disruption during the flight.
‘The crew had already requested assistance from the police. When landing in Toulouse, the plane was met and two passengers were taken out of the plane, after which the flight continued to Ibiza.
‘We sincerely apologise to passengers for any inconvenience caused by the unruly behaviour of these passengers, which was beyond Ryanair’s control.
“This is now a matter for the local police.”
