Ryan Reynolds was supported by his loved ones as he was honored with the 36th American Cinematheque Award on Thursday.

The Hollywood star, 46, brought along his mother Tammy as his date to the glitzy ceremony, which was held at The Beverly Hilton.

He was also supported by Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney and his wife Kaitlin Olson, as well as his Spirited co-star Octavia Spencer at the event.

Ryan looked smart as he donned a black velvet suit as he took the stage to collect the award.

During his speech, he said he is focused on exploring new forms of storytelling as he explained his decision to buy Wrexham FC.

The star of comic book films such as Deadpool and Green Lantern made headlines last year when he bought the humble Welsh football team with fellow actor Rob.

Their takeover and the team’s subsequent bid to the fifth tier was the subject of the popular docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, the latest in a booming trend of behind-the-scenes sports documentaries.

Sport’ is real-time storytelling. So I like applying that to Wrexham,” Ryan said at the gala on Thursday.

‘I fell in love not only with Wrexham, but also with the people of Wales. I knew I’d be holed up in the city, I just didn’t know it would go so deep so quickly.

‘It’s been great. It really has been one of the great privileges of my life.’

He added: “We live in a world that moves incredibly fast. If you can move at the speed of what people talk about, if they talk about it, you can move mountains — and that’s sport.’

Ryan was honored with the American Cinematheque Award, a mid-career achievement award given to one star each year at the event.

Past accolades include Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, and Steven Spielberg.
