Ryan Reynolds gave an epic Emmys acceptance speech by toasting one of Wrexham's five wins in the role of Deadpool.

The Hollywood A-Lister celebrated on Sunday night when it was announced that the hit documentary 'Welcome to Wrexham', which charts the rise of Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Welsh football team, had won five Emmys.

The Disney+ show was crowned the winner in the following categories:

  • Cinematography for a reality program
  • Unstructured reality program
  • Direction for a reality program
  • Image editing for an unstructured reality program
  • Mixing sound for a reality show

And Reynolds, as he often does, provided a hilarious response in the form of a thank you on behalf of Deadpool.

In a video message shared with his 21.5 million followers on X, formerly Twitter, the Wrexham co-chairman, starting with McElhenney, paid tribute to the Welsh team's supporters.

“Wow, an Emmy, what an incredible honor,” McElhenney said.

'There are so many people I have to thank. I've waited sixteen years for this moment, so I have a lot to say. I want to start by thanking…'

The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star is then cut off as he heads to another location where Reynolds – dressed as Deadpool and calling himself Mr Lively, his wife Blake's last name – takes control of the acceptance speech.

'Wow! Wow, um
Mr. Lively couldn't be here to accept this broken Emmy, so he sent me on his behalf,” Reynolds began.

'First of all, Wrexham, we love you.

“Thanks for letting Rob and the other guy tell your story. Cymru ben byth, b****es.”

He continued, “I would also like to thank The Academy for this honor and for not asking us to attend the televised awards ceremony with the real celebrities.

'I would also like to thank FX and Disney for their support and in return Mr Lively promises not to mess up my next film.

“Lastly, the Oscars, you're in the loop, motherfuckers.”

Reynolds spent his weekend with Deadpool 3 co-star Hugh Jackman, watching Wales' third round FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town.

Reynold posted a photo of himself with the Australian and captioned it it: '@WrexhamAFC watching the @EmiratesFACup with inmate 24601.'

That last bit is a reference to when Jackman played Jean Valjean in the 2013 film adaptation of the musical Les Miserables.

While Reynolds calmly placed the two on the bench – with an incomplete puzzle in front of him – it was different to what Jackman dealt later in the match after Wrexham had taken the lead against the higher-placed team.

Reynolds and McElhenney will know who Wrexham will face in the next round of Monday night's draw.
