Ryan Reynolds confirms Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney will have a cameo in his Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds confirmed that Rob McElhenney will appear in his upcoming superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine during Thursday’s episode of their reality series Welcome To Wrexham.

In the new episode of the sports docuseries, the 47-year-old actor headed to London to work on the Marvel movie, where he was met by his business partner, 47.

The actors were seen relaxing in a trailer at one point, and Ryan explained that Rob would make a brief appearance in the third film in the Deadpool franchise, via IGN

‘Due to my busy schedule I had to invite my co-chair, Rob McElhenney, to the set of Deadpool in London to discuss all things Wrexham. And yes, I had to promise him a role in the upcoming Deadpool movie,” he said.

Reynolds then humorously explained why he couldn’t provide details about the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star’s role.

“I can’t necessarily tell you which character Rob is playing in Deadpool for fear of getting shot by the Marvel drone that’s following me and my kids,” he joked.

The episode then showed some footage from the set of Deadpool & Wolverine, although everything was blurred except for the faces of Ryan, Rob, and director Shawn Levy.

Deadpool & Wolverine serves as a sequel to the first two films in the franchise, which were released in 2016 and 2018.

The feature revolves around the titular mercenary, who is recruited by the Time Variance Authority for a universe-altering mission.

Ryan’s old friend (and faux-enemy) Hugh Jackman returns to his old role as James “Logan” Howlett, better known as the X-Men hero Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine also stars The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Succession star Matthew Macfadyen, along with returning actors Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney and Leslie Uggams, among others.

McElhenney won’t be the only Wrexham AFC figure to make a brief appearance in the film, as striker Ollie Palmer will also have a cameo.

Production on Deadpool & Wolverine began last May before being paused due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The crew reconvened after unions and studios reached an agreement, and the film wrapped in January.

Reynolds recently spoke with Fandango and noted that he was “proud” of Marvel Studios’ parent company, Disney, for allowing him to make an R-rated film.

‘I think it’s a big step for them. I mean, it adds a whole different color to the kaleidoscopic wheel of that company, and to the different people they’ve entertained forever.”

The artist added that he was “surprised that they let us go as fast as R. But very grateful.”
