Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively battle it out for top of the Box Office as It Ends With Us goes head-to-head with Deadpool & Wolverine – but who ended up No. 1?
Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds battled it out for the top spot at box office this past weekend, but the young up-and-coming film couldn’t send the current champ flying.
Lively, 36, and her It Ends With Us put up a good fight, but couldn’t beat the wildly popular Deadpool & Wolverine.
The romantic drama starring actor and director Justin Baldoni grossed a healthy $50 million in its first weekend in theaters, but debuted at number two, while Reynolds’ Marvel adventure narrowly missed out with $54.2 million, according to Cash register Mojo.
Variety reported that this was the last time in more than three decades that a married couple saw their films top the box office.
The last time was in 1990 in Bruce Willis’ Die Hard 2, which featured the romantic drama Ghost, starring his then-wife Demi Moore.

Borderlands debuted in fourth place.
Based on the best-selling computer game, this thriller follows a group of misfits who must rescue a missing girl who holds the key to unimaginable powers.
Big names like Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with Jack Black and Kevin Hart, couldn’t save the project from critics, who gave it a nine percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score was a more generous 49 percent.
The film grossed $8.8 million at the box office.
Fifth place went to Despicable Me 4. The animated adventure starring the voices of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig as the heads of a bumbling crime family continued to captivate audiences, even earning $8 million.
Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $54.2 million over the weekend. So far, the Hugh Jackman-starring action film has grossed over $494.3 million in the U.S. and $1.02 billion worldwide.

Inside Out 2 remains the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far, having grossed $1,593,756,948 worldwide.

Considering the film only opened in 1,503 theaters, its $3.01 million first-weekend haul doesn’t seem all that bad, covering just under half of the film’s $7 million budget.
