Gasper De Lemos

We had four here in the five-day stage and we trust Gasper De Lemos. After a promising debut, this Justify colt won his first riding in very good style at the Curragh before finishing second to what seemed a smart horse in Arabian Crown at the Zetland here.

We are happy to have him in this race, but he will be suitable further down the line and I am always wary of an Andre Fabre horse, and his Narkez won very well on his return. And there are clearly others with claims as well.

Royal reality

He’s had some good races in the past when he was new and hopefully the terrain remains reasonable for him, although he’s also on winning form with a bit of digging. As a 9-year-old he has to give a few years to all his rivals and he would be vulnerable to an improver like Royal Rhyme, but he has had some very good races at this track, including when he finished a close second in the Joel Stakes here in September. He is one of the form horses here during that run.

Matrika

Dance Sequence has looked pretty good winning both of her starts, including the Oh So Sharp Stakes, but I don’t think my filly is far behind her, if at all. Her only defeat came in the Albany at Royal Ascot, when she finished second to subsequent Cheveley Park winner and Breeders’ Cup runner-up Porta Fortuna, and she went on to do well for me in a Group 2 at the Curragh.

We haven’t seen her since that win in July, but the fact that she’s here speaks for itself. Aidan has his horses in very good condition and although she has plenty of speed I would have thought she would get the extra furlong. okay here. But there are some promising horses in there, and this is certainly not a direct match between us and the Godolphin horse, because Dance Sequence is the big favorite here, I see.

Amestris

To be honest, I don’t know much about her at the moment – I think we’re all in the dark, given the nature of the race – but hopefully the fact that I’m booked for the Mehmas filly is a positive.

Bolsena

Her debut effort looks to be the best of the form, and she didn’t perform badly on her return to Newcastle last month. The upside from a recent run is clearly positive. A recreation of that opening stage at Haydock last September gives her a decent form claim, as I said, although this is of course another race full of unknowns.

Kalpana

This is the first time I have ridden this Juddmonte filly, but she has clearly made a good start to her career. She won on her debut at Wolverhampton and then finished second on a penalty to what might have been a smart enough winner at Newcastle last time. An opening mark at 78 looks good, and perhaps the move to 1m2f also suits.
