Ryan Moore on Paddington in the Juddmonte International and his other five rides as the York Ebor Festival kicks off TODAY

  • Jockey Ryan Moore has six rides on day one of the York Ebor Festival
  • Paddington looking for eighth consecutive win in the Juddmonte International
  • The colt will compete against top rivals Mostahdaf, Nashwa and The Foxes

The York Ebor Festival has arrived with the Juddmonte International as the day one main race.

All eyes will be on Aidan O’Brien’s star Paddington at 3:35pm.

Here, Honestly Ambassador Ryan Moore goes through his six rides on Wednesday.

Edwardian

He came across a useful horse on his debut at Tipperary in April and I rode him for the first time when he won for me at a break at Naas last month.

I was quite taken with him there as he took it extremely well and won over 5f. He immediately jumps to 7f here on faster terrain, but you have to think that this fits this No Nay Never colt in terms of pedigree and running style.

Of course he’s making significant progress in class and that Naas run will need a lot of improvement – the form of Richmond Stakes second Ballymount Boy looks even better after Sunday’s Prix Morny – but he’s a horse with serious potential. He’s talented.

Continuous

Only the five runners, but there are some very bright talents on display too, not the least of which is current St Leger favorite Gregory. He seems to beat the one here, even with his £3 fine, but we’ve always judged Continu.

He ran well here in the Dante before taking his chance in the French Derby, and then he probably ran a career best when last time he finished second to King Of Steel in the King Edward VII Stakes. He has a solid opportunity right now, with more to come hopefully.

Paddington

Again a small field, but packed with talent.

Mostahdaf looked top drawer when he beat Luxembourg at Royal Ascot and he looks pretty lethal on fast ground when fresh – at least the handicapper thinks so as he currently rates him 3lb over Paddington – and we have also three-time Group 1 scorer Nashwa and the Dante winner The Foxes here.

But my foal has upped his game to face any challenge he faces this season, and hopefully it will be the same here again.

He has everything you look for in a top class horse – he has it all – but the official ratings say this is his toughest job yet, and Mostahdaf should be greatly respected after what he did last time.

4:10 p.m. York

Zandabad

He came out of a break after a period of hurdles as he formed well at the Curragh in May and hopefully a score of 94 will see him competitive here on his French flat performances.

It’s difficult to get to grips with that form, but last season he certainly seemed progressive in that area and cost quite a bit in sales after that.

Kimngrace

She won well here last season, she can take on ground quickly and the handicapper seems to have played with her as she has gone down the weights quite quickly on her recent runs.

She seems to have as good a chance as anyone in a typical wide-open sprint handicap.

5:20 p.m. York

Starlust

He seems to have formed really well as he came second to a stablemate at Goodwood and a 3lb increase before that is probably fair enough.

Again, it’s a competitive race, but he should go well.
