Ryan Mason set to STAY at Tottenham after holding talks with Ange Postecoglou

BREAKING NEWS: Ryan Mason will STAY at Tottenham after talks with Ange Postecoglou – and will be part of his senior coaching team

Ryan Mason will remain at Tottenham as part of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff.

Former Spurs midfielder Mason took charge of the first team at the end of last season following the departure of Antonio Conte and the subsequent sacking of his assistant Cristian Stellini.

There has been doubt over the 31-year-old’s future at Tottenham Hotspur following Postecoglou’s appointment, while there has also been interest from clubs looking to give Mason his first managerial role.

But Mason, following talks with the new head coach, will remain at the club as part of the new senior coaching team.

Postecoglou also wants to add Celtic coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to his team before the start of the pre-season.

Kennedy and Strachan worked under the Australian at Parkhead and the new Spurs head coach wants his trusted assistants to join him in north London.

Importantly, the coaching duo want to come to Tottenham, who are in talks with Celtic about releasing their contract.

Spurs are also said to have interviewed outside candidates for senior backroom positions if their move to bring in Kennedy and Strachan ends in vain with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach Paul Clement among those with Premier League experience left out of work.

Tottenham and Postecoglou have now turned their attention to finalizing the club’s recruitment plans – with Leicester’s attacking midfielder James Maddison targeted.

England international Maddison will leave the King Power Stadium this summer following the Foxes’ relegation.

Newcastle are seen as leaders for the 26-year-old, but interest from Tottenham Hotspur could dash Eddie Howe’s hopes of signing Maddison.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is also a key target for Spurs, with current number 1 Hugo Lloris eager to return to France this summer.

However, Raya is valued at £40 million – a fee Spurs are reluctant to pay as the shot-stopper has only 12 months left on his contract. Spurs are also keeping an eye on Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate, although there are concerns over whether the 25-year-old will be eligible for a work permit.
