Ryan Kelly announces that he and his wife are expecting twin ‘miracle’ boys after tragic miscarriage
NFL star Ryan Kelly and his wife Emma have announced the joyful news that they are expecting twins, who share their “miracle” with the world after surviving their daughter’s “unsurvivable” death.
Emma miscarried 19 weeks into her pregnancy two years ago and lost a little girl named Mary Kate in 2021.
The couple’s “bittersweet” pregnancy announcement comes after a grueling journey through in vitro fertilization that was “heartbreaking.”

“My thanks, I can’t even tell you,” said Emma, 33. “There was a time when I really wasn’t sure if we were going to come here. I am literally so thankful for every day.”

Emma is recently half way through with her twins – a ‘bittersweet’ milestone that stirs up a lot of emotion as she was 19 weeks into her first pregnancy when they learned their daughter’s ‘heart just stopped for unknown reasons’.
“A lot of emotion goes into just surpassing that bittersweet milestone right now. And now further than ever,” Emma told the publication.
Speaking about the immediate aftermath of her miscarriage, she said, “I remember sitting in the hospital bed after giving birth and they took her away from me, and I was like, ‘I can’t live like this.’ The emptiness of it, I remember feeling so broken.”
Ryan spoke candidly about how sharing their painful story with the world ultimately helped them grieve and heal.
“We felt like the only ones there,” he said, “but then you hear people’s stories and it helped us tell ours and keep our daughter’s name alive, to honor her in a sense. It certainly contributed to our healing.’
The Indianapolis Colts center, 29, and his beloved wife have “always wanted to be parents” and have never given up hope even as they faced “heartbreaking” infertility struggles.”
“I knew in that moment that nothing could ever replace our daughter, but I knew we wanted our family to grow,” Emma said.
She continued: ‘…It’s really painful if you want it, and you try so hard and do everything right, and see so many doctors and professionals. And then month after month of negative pregnancy test after negative pregnancy test, after the loss of a child you wanted so badly.’

Emma recalled more emotions from the ‘darkest’ time of her life, saying she only felt ‘shame’ at not being able to conceive and also admitted that there is still ‘anxiety and pain’ from her first pregnancy.
“There’s a PTSD to it,” Emma explained, adding that she’s trying to “feel the joy and excitement.”
“I’m so proud of us and our relationship,” she said of her two-year marriage to Kelly. “I literally feel like we just survived the unsurvivable.”
The parents-to-be try to enjoy this pregnancy as much as possible, even though there is ‘no safe period’. Concluding her interview, Emma said, “I just want our boys to get here alive.”
