Ryan Gosling says his and Eva Mendes’ two daughters ‘don’t care’ that they’re A-list stars and even ask to ‘fast-forward’ through their roles

The two daughters of Ryan Gosling and longtime partner Eva Mendes are unimpressed by their parents’ movie star status.

While promoting his new film The Fall Guy, the 43-year-old Oscar nominee confessed PEOPLE: ‘They don’t care.’

Gosling and Mendes, who have been together since 2011, share daughters Esmeralda, nine, and Amada, eight.

To make his point, the Barbie star recalled a time when their children asked to “fast-forward” through one of Mendes’ roles — despite the actress starring in one of their favorite shows.

In 2021, Mendes voiced a yoga instructor on an episode of the hit ABC Kids animated series, Bluey.

‘Eva was in an episode of Bluey. We both thought it was going to be huge,” he explained.

But Esmeralda and Amada “didn’t like it” and then asked if they could “fast-forward through that part!”

Gosling, 43, also felt Esmeralda and Amada’s veto while filming his latest film, The Fall Guy, which just released in the US on May 3 and also stars Emily Blunt.

The action comedy directed by David Leitch, who worked from a screenplay by Drew Pearce, is loosely based on the 1980s TV series about stunt performers.

Definitely not something on his girls’ radar. Gosling had it in mind that he was going to do as many of his own stunts as possible since he plays Colt Seavers, a veteran action stuntman.

And since the story is about a stuntman, the role actually involved a lot of potentially dangerous high-flying feats that he had to do or pass off to the real stuntmen for the film.

It turns out the London, Ontario, Canada native isn’t just turning down his kids when it comes to choosing his next roles and the scenes that come with the job.

“My kids didn’t want me to be set on fire,” he said of The Fall Guy, where the star also serves as a producer. ‘They said, “No, no fire.” So I didn’t do it.’

Blunt, 41, who plays Colt’s ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno in The Fall Guy, weighed in on the topic, saying she has discovered that her children “don’t want you to be anything other than their parent.”

Her daughters Hazel, nine, and Violet, seven, whom she shares with actor and director John Krasinski, have responded similarly to Gosling’s girls.

“They’ve only seen Jungle Cruise once because they don’t like seeing me on screen, which I understand because I’m their mother and it’s very strange to see me playing someone else,” she explained of the 2021 fantasy adventure film she starred in. alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Blunt even made a point of talking about how her girls find certain dramatic scenes very painful to watch.

“They didn’t like the underwater stuff where I’m trapped and in danger,” the Oscar-nominated actress said of Jungle Cruise. “They’ve left the room.”

In a recent interview with WJGosling revealed that he is “avoiding roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place” to help keep the peace in his home with Mendes, 50, and their daughters.

‘We make [decisions] with our family in mind first,” the former Disney Channel child star said of the process of how he chooses his next project.

After premiering at SXSW in March, The Fall Guy can now be found in theaters worldwide from May 3.

In addition to Gosling and Blunt, the cast also includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer and Stephanie Hsu.

Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, who starred in the original television series of the same name, both have cameos in the new film version as police officers, along with Jason Momoa, who has a brief appearance as himself.
