Ryan Gosling will not bow to pressure and forfeit his Best Supporting Actor nomination at this year’s Oscars despite calls from fans around the world, an insider claims.
The 43-year-old actor has been nominated at the 94th Academy Awards in the critically acclaimed category for his role as Ken in the blockbuster film Barbie – but his costar Margot Robbie, 33, and director Greta Gerwig, 40, were both snubbed from recognition.
On Tuesday, Ryan expressed anger in a statement that the Academy had overlooked his female colleagues, but stopped short of giving up his nomination in protest.
And according to a source close to the Hollywood A-lister, he has no plans to do so.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, the insider said: ‘Ryan stands by his statement.
“He understands that people are angry, because he is angry too, but he doesn’t let what anyone says online affect him.”
They continued, “Ryan is honored that he was nominated and that the film was nominated.
“If he wins or if he performs I’m Just Ken, he will honor Margot and Greta in some way.”
According to the source, Ryan is doing what’s right for his heart and has the support of his cast and director.
‘He doesn’t want to make more of it than it has become. He talked about it and people should take what he said seriously because he meant every word,” the insider said.
Ryan issued a statement addressing Greta and Margot’s criticism shortly after the Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday.
He began his statement by expressing gratitude for his nomination, saying, “I am deeply honored to have been nominated by my peers alongside such remarkable artists in a year with so many great films.”

“And I never thought I’d say this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it is for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”
The actor then expressed his disappointment that Margot and Greta were not nominated, before praising them for their work on the film.
“Against all odds, with nothing but a few soulless, scantily clad and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, pushed the culture and made history,” he added.
Finally, he congratulated co-star America Ferrera, who received the Best Supporting Actress award.
“That said, I’m so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to make this such a groundbreaking film,” Ryan said.
Barbie was released in July and grossed a record $1.45 billion at the global box office, and $636 million domestically.
The blockbuster received a total of eight Oscar nominations, although Greta failed to land a Best Director nomination this year, and Margot, who played the title character, was also passed over for Best Lead Actress.

While Margot isn’t in the running for Best Lead Actress, the film itself is nominated for Best Picture, meaning she’s actually nominated as a producer.
Greta and her husband, Noah Baumbach, are also jointly nominated this year for writing Barbie’s adapted screenplay.
A separate source, an Academy constituent, shed some light on why Barbie’s lead actress Margot and director Greta were rejected from the film, telling DailyMail.com: ‘How many films, actors and directors have been rejected over the years? It happens all the time and it will continue to happen. It’s an endless cycle.
‘The reason for this is that it is a mixture of everything. Some voters assumed they would be nominated, so they cast their votes elsewhere. Some voters don’t want a movie like Barbie to be nominated for anything when there are movies like Oppenheimer in the race.
“Other voters would never consider that when people look back on history, films like The Godfather, Schindler’s List and Gone With The Wind would share the same praise and platform as Barbie.

She said: “It’s been a long Barbie journey – I mean longer, even for Greta and Margot and Noah, it’s been years and years and years – everyone is very excited that we get to celebrate it and end it at the biggest party of the year’ (pictured with Robbie and Gerwig)
“Not exactly 2024 thinking, but these are the voters who vote for all films.”
However, the insider added that because the Oscars nominations had caused so much “uproar,” this could work in Barbie’s favor.
“The likelihood of Greta winning for Best Adapted Screenplay must be considered an almost impossible task as the Academy voters are now eager to make a statement,” she added.
“If the uproar continues, voters will be swayed and Barbie is much more likely to win what they were nominated for.”

Margot has previously been nominated for two Oscars: Best Lead Actress for her 2017 film I, Tonya, a biopic about Tonya Harding, and Best Supporting Actress for the 2020 film Bombshell, which dramatized the story of Fox News’ sex scandals.
Meanwhile, Greta was previously nominated for the Best Director Oscar for her 2017 film Lady Bird, marking her first solo helm of a feature film.
She was also nominated for that film’s screenplay, as well as the script of her follow-up film, the 2019 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel Little Women.
