Ryan Giggs lands first job since being cleared of domestic violence charges… as ex-Wales boss is named director of football at Salford – the club he co-owns with Manchester United’s Class of ’92
Ryan Giggs has been working in football again under the cover of secrecy since October, with his club Salford City only publicly announcing his position at the end of February.
Giggs, 50, is director of football at Moor Lane – a position he has held for much of the season – although the League Two side only publicly and indirectly hinted at his role last month.
His role on The Ammies came just a few months after he was cleared of domestic violence charges by a former partner.
The former Manchester United star is one of their co-owners, and this month (March 27) marks the 10th anniversary of the high-profile takeover of the Class of 92.
Nicky Butt replaced co-owner Gary Neville as CEO of Salford in October, with Giggs taking on the role of director of football.

It is his first job in football since he was acquitted of domestic violence charges last year
Giggs had pleaded not guilty to controlling or coercive conduct over a period of three years towards his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, 38, between August 2017 and November 2020

It is his first job back in football since stepping down as Wales manager in June 2022 ahead of the World Cup in Qatar due to a then-pending legal case.
Giggs was acquitted of domestic violence charges by his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville last July and a source close to him said at the time that he had “unfinished business” in play.
The resumption of his management and coaching career may be on the cards, but for now he is working as director of football at Salford.
The club has not yet formally announced Giggs’ role. The first mention of his new title comes in the recent confirmation of Alex Bruce as part of manager Karl Robinson’s coaching set-up.
Salford are currently 20th in League Two, eight points above Colchester in the last relegation spot, after losing 3-1 at MK Dons last weekend.
Giggs, Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and David Beckham each own 10 percent of the club, while Singaporean businessman Peter Lim owns the remaining 40 percent.
City chief executive Butt said: ‘We support Salford City with as much commitment and confidence as ever.
‘We had an original ten-year plan and now that a strong foundation is in place, the intention was always to explore options for the next phase.’
It has been a turbulent time for Giggs, who was ‘deeply relieved’ when he was acquitted of assaulting ex-girlfriend Greville last July.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over an alleged headbutt against 38-year-old Ms Greville, plus further charges of coercive or controlling behavior against her and common assault against her sister Emma.
His most recent job was manager of Wales, but he stepped down in June 2022
His lawyer said he was ‘looking forward to rebuilding his life and career as an innocent man’ after he was acquitted

Giggs’ lawyer said his client was “looking forward to rebuilding his life and career as an innocent man” after he was acquitted.
Mail Sport’s Ian Herbert attended a dull after-dinner speech Giggs gave in Cheshire in February, a symbol of his significantly fallen status.
Instead of managing a football club as he might have hoped, the Man United legend was reduced to an appearance on the speaking circuit, recounting all his yesterdays over a not-quite-full banquet hall.
Giggs told the crowd that his four games as United’s interim manager following the sacking of David Moyes in 2014 made him realize he was cut out for the role. United won two of the matches, drew one and lost one.
“It was the one I lost that made me want to save it,” he said.
“I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it, but I thought, ‘If you don’t perform, you’re out of the team.’ That’s when I knew I definitely wanted to become a manager.’
Giggs has been in a relationship with Zara Charles since 2018.
A month after he was cleared of domestic abuse charges, he was pictured joining Charles for a cozy lunch in Hale, Greater Manchester.

In January, Rhodri Giggs claimed he could ‘bury’ the former footballer if he wanted to, due to his brother’s long-running affair with his wife.
In 2011, it emerged that Natasha Lever had an eight-year affair with husband Rhodri’s brother Ryan – who was also married to wife Stacey at the time – which spanned much of his time at United.
Lever and Ryan conducted illegal liaisons in hotel rooms and vacant properties that she had access to through her job as a real estate agent, which Rhodri claims accidentally gave her the idea.
Addressing his brother on The Central Club podcast, Rhodri insisted he could have caused serious damage to the former footballer, 50, if he had wanted to by selling stories to the media, as his family has accused him of doing for decades.
“All I’ve tried to be is a good father and husband, and he’s been blabbing, and he’s just an idiot,” said Rhodri, himself a former football player. ‘I know what it’s about, they keep thinking that when I was younger I sold stories because I was friends with a reporter because I liked him.
“That doesn’t mean I’m selling secret stories, and they still think that to this day. They’re fucking idiots, where’s the proof? There is no evidence. The only little thing is I made up stories, I’d say his Bentley was black when it was blue.
“This was 27 years ago, we were doing well, but as soon as all these things happen, because I sold my story about this, they say, he’s at it again. I wasn’t going to (on this occasion) because I was talking to Ryan about getting our relationship back on track, but he had to do that, I’m not going to push it, and I had nothing for six or seven months.

“If I wanted to sell some stories, I would have done it last year and buried this son of a bitch, buried him. I know some stories that could have buried him, so if I wanted to sell stories I would, but why would I want to do that? Why? I would not do it.
“I’m not that bitter and I’m not that twisted, but he has to be careful because I could have done that too. A lot of people could have done that, but they didn’t, and it’s all because he made the choices he made, and no one else. You can’t go through life with this kind, innocent family man if you keep an eye on everything. How old is he, 48, 49? He needs to grow the fuck up.”
