Ryan Garcia has reportedly been arrested in Los Angeles for misdemeanor vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills.
According to TMZThe boxer was arrested and taken into custody on Saturday afternoon after apparently causing significant damage to the hotel, including the room he was staying in.
TMZ claims Garcia was “apparently under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs” but cooperated with authorities during his arrest.
The 25-year-old defeated Devin Haney earlier this year, but his erratic behavior in the build-up led many to wonder if he was mentally stable enough to fight. He failed a doping test after his surprise win.
TMZ reported earlier this week that Garcia was checked by police at the same hotel after receiving a call from a family member concerned about his well-being. Offers apparently determined that he was doing well and that was the end of the matter.
But his arrest on Saturday in California is the latest in terms of payment for Garcia.
In December 2023, he divorced his wife Andrea Celina immediately after the birth of their second child.
Then, heading into his highly anticipated clash with Haney in April, he sparked widespread fears over the state of his mental health with a series of disturbing and bizarre online rants, including one claiming his throat had been slit.
Garcia also claimed to have been raped by a relative at a young age, claiming he was tied up in the forest by “the elites” and forced to watch the rape of children.
Amid concerns about his state of mind, he came in almost four pounds overweight for his grudge match against WBC super lightweight champion Haney, meaning he did not win that title despite his win that night.
And following his points win in Brooklyn, it later emerged that Garcia had tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine the day before and the day of the fight, before his B sample tests returned the same result.
However, his team claims that the B sample results prove their man is innocent, insisting that he is simply a victim of supplement contamination.
