Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted a decision has yet to be made on his future under new boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford as his interim spell in charge continued with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Manchester United’s miserable start to the season improved with a 1-1 draw against Enzo Maresca’s Champions League chasers Blues, but shared victory leaves them 13th in the Premier League standings with just 12 points.
Van Nistelrooy – who replaces the sacked Erik ten Hag – is awaiting confirmation of his next steps at Amorim, who starts at United on November 11. The club legend is in the dark about whether he will be part of the Portuguese’s technical staff.
Amorim is taking his backroom team from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester, but could also look to get Van Nistelrooy into his team after the Dutchman only started working as Ten Hag’s assistant in the summer.
Revealing whether a conversation has taken place with United’s new dugout chief, Van Nistelrooy told Sky Sport after Sunday’s draw against Chelsea: ‘It’s special, I’ve loved every second of it and I’ll continue to do so for now. I’m here to help and I will support the new manager.

Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as Man United’s next permanent first-team manager
Van Nistelrooy has praised the ‘special’ experience of managing Man United in the Premier League
‘Everyone at the club is concentrating on the two games. Then we stand behind him and work hard to make United better every day.
‘I think everything will be discussed in the coming days and weeks. I’m waiting for that. What’s more important is that we’ll be back in Carrington tomorrow,” he added.
Van Nistelrooy is unlikely to be short of options with the 48-year-old previously relinquishing his ambitions as a head coach to take on a role as an assistant at the club he previously helped to series title success as a player.
The Dutchman is attempting to revive United’s dismal start in the English top flight and the Europa League, with the club’s first-team stars already looking more organized and dangerous in front of goal than under Ten Hag.
United captain Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the uninspiring 1-1 draw against Chelsea and was disappointed not to get three points on his debut as manager in the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy continues: ‘I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get the win. We had the best chances. Marcus hit the post, Bruno in the last few minutes. Overall, the players’ performances were fantastic.
‘It was a great moment, Bruno did very well and then the emotions came out.
‘Today [Sunday] what you saw, we did very well. We had the better chances. I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get the three points. I saw some excellent performances today. Lisandro [Martinez] and Matthijs [De Ligt[ did a great job, [Noussair] Mazraoui played an excellent match. Bruno [Fernandes] took responsibility.
‘It’s a good group of players, a good group of people. They left everything on the field. You saw the connection with the fans. That’s what we’re looking for.
