‘I don’t know how I’m going to get over it!’ Ruth Wilson to perform the same scene repeatedly for 24 CONSECUTIVE hours with 100 men in new play The Second Woman

Ruth Wilson is prepared to perform the same scenes over and over for 24 consecutive hours in her new play The Second Woman.

The 41-year-old actress will play Virginia in the show, which will take place at London’s Young Vic from May and will perform a looping seven-minute scene featuring 100 different men playing her partner Marty.

And Ruth will have a hard time, as the scene will be repeated 100 times in a row, and the star will say, “I don’t know how I’m going to get over it!”

In the play, each man will take on the role of Marty alongside Ruth, one after the other, many of whom are volunteers making their stage debut.

To make things even more intriguing, the Luther star will not meet the men beforehand, but will meet them for the first time when they take the stage.

Ruth said Deadline of her new role: ‘It’s a great act of resistance. I don’t know how I’m going to get over it and that’s part of the appeal for me. I’ll lose any sense of acting as the show goes on.’

He continued: “I don’t have any rehearsals with the men, I don’t know them before…then they come and it’s the first time I would have met them.”

The excited movie star added that she is excited not to know how each man will react when he meets her.

She added: “I always thought there would have been an attempt on my part, initially, to act or create a character or entertain the audience, or take care of these men as they go along.”

Difficult: Ruth will have a hard time since the scene will be repeated 100 times in a row, and the star will say:

However, all of that would disappear as her ‘weariness and emotions’ got the better of her, noting that those things would ‘erode’.

The play was created by Nat Randall and Anna Breckon and is an adaptation of John Cassavetes’ 1977 film Opening Night.

You’ll see the 100 Men follow the same script where the character Marty comes into Virginia’s living room to apologize for “being so rude.”

With Virginia seeking emotional reassurance from her lover, the way each man chooses to give her such reassurance is an exploration of gender roles and power dynamics.

Press material says of the project: “The Second Woman is a unique cinematic theatrical experience in which the stage offers audiences a wide-angle view of the action, while multiple cameras capture and share live close-ups.”

Ruth went on to count The Guardian of the play: ‘I’m curious about putting myself in scenarios that I have no idea how to anticipate. It is an endurance test.

‘I don’t know how I’m going to get over it, but it excites me somehow. It’s like nothing I’ve ever done or ever done again, it’s an extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

On his interest in the role, he added, “As an actor, you’re always looking for those candid moments that feel alive and fresh and unrehearsed.” With this, as much as I try to act like this character, they will spend four, eight, 16 hours in that artifice and it will be just me up there, in my most raw and real state, not knowing if this is a dream or a nightmare.

Last year Ruth was awarded an MBE for services to the theatre, and Princess Anne presented her with her award.

The actress rose to fame after being cast in the primetime show The Affair as Alison Bailey in 2014 alongside actor Dominic West, 52, who played Noah Solloway, before leaving abruptly in 2019.
