Ruth Jones mocks Gavin and Stacey fans in awkward encounter as she cheekily scolds them for questioning whether the last episode really is the ‘finale’: ‘I’m not telling you anything!’

Ruth Jones was filmed on Wednesday mocking Gavin and Stacey fans during an awkward encounter, where they continually questioned her about the season finale.

Filming for the very last episode of the beloved BBC series is in full swing, with a number of actors seen filming scenes on Barry Island in recent days.

The upcoming Christmas special will mark the sitcom’s return for the first time in five years, with fans eager to see what writers James Cordon and Ruth have planned.

However, the 57-year-old actress seemed irritated by the constant questions about whether there would be more episodes, even mocking the superfans by noting that it’s called a “finale” for a reason.

Dressed in Nessa’s signature leather ensemble and short black wig, Ruth playfully declared, “I’m not telling you anything,” adding, “If anyone asks me if there’s going to be more, I don’t know how to answer.”

To which one follower shouted: “Then you better marry him!”, referring to Cordon’s character Smithy.

At the climax of the final Christmas episode in 2019, Nessa knelt down to propose to Smithy, but viewers never got to hear his response.

When Ruth answered the comments on the Barry Island promenade in South Wales, she replied: “Do you want me to tell you what’s happening?” to which the assembled crowd shouted “No!”

The actress, who was joined by her co-star Joanna Page, replied: “Then why do you ask?”

When someone said that fans just want to see Nessa and Smithy together at the end, Ruth insisted: ‘Well, I’m not telling you anything, I’m not telling you what’s going to happen.’

Amidst all the excitement from fans, Ruth sadly disappointed them by confirming that there will be no more episodes. She said: ‘It’s definitely the end, absolutely the end.

‘That’s a good thing, because you can’t go on forever!’

Despite reprimanding Gavin and Stacey enthusiasts for their questions, Ruth still couldn’t stop laughing as she thanked them for their interest, after which she and Joanna waved them goodbye.

The footage of the meeting with Ruth was captured by Claire Wheatley, a 44-year-old fan of Gavin and Stacey, who was waiting on set with others as the cast filmed the special episode.

The critically acclaimed series follows the lives of title characters Gavin from Essex and Stacey from South Wales, documenting key moments in their long-distance relationship and events that bring the two families together.

Last week, Ruth’s character Nessa was reunited with James Cordon’s Smithy during filming for the upcoming Christmas episode.

The duo, who also wrote the script for the series, were filmed outside Gwen’s house as they braved the rain.

And the on-again, off-again couple were also joined by their son, baby Neil.

Neil was born in 2008 as a result of a one-night stand between the two and is now no longer a baby and 15 years old.

When someone stated that fans just want to see Nessa and Smithy together at the end, Ruth insisted: 'Well, I'm not telling you anything, I'm not telling you what's going to happen'

When Neil, played by Oscar Hartland, took a seat in the passenger seat of Smithy’s iconic car, he looked very different to the 10-year-old boy who last appeared in the series in 2019.

As Oscar got out of the car, we saw him waving to fans and making the peace sign as he waited to film his scenes.

Meanwhile, James was also seen carrying a guitar, suggesting there could be a musical number in the highly-anticipated final episode.

Uncle Bryn also joined the gang, seen in his typical smart shirt, tie and beige trousers.

The finale stars Joanna Page and Stacey, with Mathew Horne playing Gavin, as the gang reunites for the first time since the last Christmas episode in 2019.

Joanna, 47, previously expressed her excitement after it was confirmed the iconic BBC sitcom would air a final episode at Christmas, almost five years after it aired its final episode in 2019.

Speaking on a special of her Off the Telly Podcast, she told co-host Natalie Cassidy: ‘I’m so excited to see the gang again and start filming, and I can’t wait to hear if Smithy says yes.

“I can’t wait to find out what happens to everyone!”

Before I laugh: ‘I’ll have to keep that script away from you. [Natalie’s] little legs, but yeah, we can discuss it on our show at Christmas and I’d be very angry if you weren’t watching me at Christmas!’

At the climax of the final Christmas episode in 2019, Nessa knelt down to propose to Smithy, but viewers never got to hear his response.

The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship during the series, after several unplanned one-night stands led to their son Neil.

In the series finale, which followed the characters 10 years after the previous episode, it was revealed that they were successfully raising their son together.

And as the family gathered in Barry for the festivities, the episode ended with Nessa getting down on one knee and the episode ended right after she asked, “Marry me?”
