Rust gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed convinced a judge to let her keep a gun at home while on bail.

Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney told a virtual court hearing that he needed it for “self-defense.”

Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed by Alec Baldwin on the film set in October 2021. Gutierrez-Reed was in charge of starting the guns.

Both she and Baldwin have been charged with manslaughter and face up to 18 months in prison if convicted.

“It’s for self-protection,” she said, alleging that prosecutors divulged personal information about her that put her safety at risk.

Gutierrez-Reed did not speak during the brief virtual appearance.

Baldwin gave up his first appearance yesterday and pleaded not guilty from afar.

He had faced five years in prison for a gun increase in office, but that was withdrawn.

Now, the actor faces up to 18 months behind bars.

He has always maintained that he did not pull the trigger and that the gun fired spontaneously.

He insists that it was the gunsmith’s responsibility to make sure the gun was safe before handing it over.

However, prosecutors in New Mexico and the FBI say it would have been impossible for the gun to go off without him pulling the trigger.

They say they had seen him pulling the trigger of the same weapon in previous rehearsals and practices.

Baldwin has already settled a civil lawsuit filed by Halyna’s widower, Matthew. His family in Ukraine is now also suing separately.
