Russian airfield is obliterated by Ukraine kamikaze drone as video captures moment another attack wipes out key railway station used to transport Putin’s weapons, troops and ammunition

Ukraine carried out two large kamikaze drones that knocked out one of Putin’s prized nuclear bombers in a spectacular fireball, causing significant damage to a train station used to supply the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

New footage from the attack on Soltsy airbase in the Novgorod region shows one of Russia’s nuclear bombers being engulfed in a massive fireball.

The smoke billowing from the fireball could be seen for miles.

The Russian Defense Ministry tried to play down the attack, claiming that only one of the bombers was hit:

“The Kiev regime carried out a terrorist attack using a helicopter-type UAV on a military airfield in the Novgorod region.

“As a result of the terrorist attack on the territory of the airport, a fire broke out in the aircraft parking area, which was promptly extinguished by the fire brigade.

“One aircraft was damaged, but there were no casualties as a result of the terrorist attack,” it added.

But Ukrainian sources refuted this claim, saying that two Tu-22M3 bombers were badly damaged.

In addition, the Institute for the Study of War said a Russian insider told them the fire damaged at least two aircraft.

Russian media have since reported that at least six of the supersonic bombers have been moved to Olenya air base, nearly 1,000 miles away.

The attack on the prized bomber came a day before a major train station was also attacked in a suspected Ukrainian kamikaze drone attack.

There was fire and damage to the roof and facade of Kursk railway station on a line used to carry weapons, troops and ammunition to Vladimir Putin’s illegal war against Ukraine.

Footage showed the moment of the attack, as drone strikes were also reported in Moscow and the Rostov region.

The Russians claimed that the drone had been disrupted by air defenses and that it was debris that fell on the roof of the train station and started a fire.

Five people were injured by shards of glass, regional governor Roman Starovoit said.

In the Rostov region, two drones hit a military base in Kamensk, regional governor Vasily Golubev said.

Another drone hit Novosakhtinsk in the same region.

The total damage from the strikes was not immediately clear.

In Moscow, aircraft-type kamikaze drones targeting the capital were shot down using electronic warfare equipment, the Russian defense ministry said.

Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said: “A drone was tried to fly from south towards Moscow at night.

“It was stopped by the air defense forces.”

The attacks, both caught on tape, come just weeks after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that “war is returning to Russia’s territory.”

He said in one of his late-night speeches to the citizens of Ukraine in late July that the country’s military would target Russia’s “symbolic centers and military bases.”

“This is an unavoidable, natural and absolutely fair process,” he added.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force added at the time that the Russians were already dealing with the backlash from the invasion.

“All the people who think the war doesn’t concern them are already affecting them,” Yurii Ihnat said at the end of July.

“There is already a certain mood in Russia: that something is flying in, and loud. There is no longer any discussion of peace or tranquility in the Russian heartland. They got what they wanted.’
