Russia bombards several Ukrainian cities with missiles, including Kyiv, Odessa and Kharkiv, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people.

Russian strikes hit a number of Ukrainian regions early Thursday, including the capital Kiev, the Black Sea port of Odessa and the second-largest city of Kharkiv, knocking out power to several areas, regional officials said.

The attacks hit a wide range of targets, including cities stretching from Zhytomyr, Vynnytsia and Rivne in the west to Dnipro and Poltava in central Ukraine.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions had been reported in the southwestern part of the city and rescue services were on the way.

Power supply has been preemptively cut off to around 15 percent of kyiv residents, it said.

Reuters correspondents in kyiv heard a new series of explosions around 7 am local time (0500 GMT).

Odessa Region Governor Maksym Marchenko said a massive missile attack hit a power facility in the port city, causing power outages.

“As a result of a massive missile attack, an energy infrastructure site was attacked in the region, as well as residences,” Marchenko said on Telegram.

He said anti-aircraft units had shot down some missiles and further attacks could follow.

“Fortunately, there are no victims. Electricity restrictions are in effect.

Kharkiv Region Governor Oleh Synehubov said the city and region had been hit by about 15 attacks.

“The enemy carried out about 15 attacks in the city and the region,” he said on Telegram.

‘Infrastructure was once again among the objectives. Information about casualties is being clarified.

According to the Ukrainian news outlet Obozrevatel.ua, two people were injured by a missile attack in Kharkiv that landed near their home.

Another attack was reported in the central city of Dnipro and in the western cities of Lutsk and Rivne, far from the front lines in the year-long war.
