Alleged attack in Moscow seen as an attack on Putin, state media report.

Russia has accused Ukraine of attempting a nighttime drone attack on the Kremlin with the aim of assassinating President Vladimir Putin.

The allegation was made by the Kremlin on Wednesday and reported by several Russian news agencies.

Putin was not injured and there was no material damage to Kremlin buildings, Russian officials said.

The Kremlin warned that Russia reserves the right to retaliate and that it considered the alleged attack a “terrorist” attack.

“The Kremlin has assessed these actions as a planned act of terrorism and an assassination attempt against the president on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 parade,” state news outlet RIA reported.

It said that Putin had not changed his schedule and was continuing to work.

An unverified video circulating on Russian social media, including the Zvezda military news channel, showed pale smoke rising behind the main Kremlin palace inside the walled citadel after the alleged incident.
