Russell Wilson has hardly been the most popular figure since his arrival in Denver, and yet many in Charlotte appreciated his Sunday presence.

One man who may have been an exception is defensive tackle Mike Purcell, who shot Wilson as the Broncos’ offensive unit geared up for another run.

Denver slumped to an atrocious 3-8 record with a 23-10 loss at The Queen City in what was another anemic performance.

Denver’s Mike Purcell put his QB Russell Wilson on edge during the team’s loss in Carolina

Purcell expressed his frustration and lashed out at “Mr. Unlimited” in the fourth quarter – who again struggled as he often did in 11 games as a Bronco.

Wilson completed 19/35 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown as the Broncos fell to their fifth loss on the road in six attempts.

After the game, Purcell said the viral moment stemmed from “frustration.”

“We all want to light something,” Purcell remarked. “We’re all in this together, period.

Wilson downplayed the confrontation during his post-game press conference in Charlotte

That’s the quarterback on our offense, they’re about to take the field. Obviously we let a touchdown happen, so we weren’t doing our job

“But I need to get a spark somewhere. They’re about to take the field, that’s all it was.’

Wilson also poured cold water on the post-match confrontation, maintaining the neutral disposition he is known for.

“Mike and I are on the same wavelength,” Wilson said after the loss.

Purcell and the Broncos defense have played some excellent football for the most part this season

“He was pissed off, he just said, ‘We got, we gotta F’in’ go,” and I agree. We’re on the same wavelength – there’s no animosity at all.’

As for the future, Denver faces more potential woes in a trainwreck season few could have foreseen.

Next, a road trip to an injured Baltimore awaits. followed by the arrival of Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City at Mile High.

‘We have to win. We need to come out here and have some guts, some mentality for us. We have to win these football games,” the ex-Seahawk added.

Wilson and the Broncos have had a hell of a season following his successful move from Seattle

“Those guys fight against every game and every attack, we have to be able to capitalize. So yeah, there’s nothing at all, me and him — there’s nothing.’

Denver ranks last in scoring — averaging 14.3 points per game — and red zone violation.

Sunday marked the ninth time they scored under 16 points in a game. Before it gets better, the ride may get even bumpier.
