Russell Crowe’s latest blockbuster, The Pope’s Exorcist, has been a huge commercial hit.
The budget for the film was $18 million, and it has since made a whopping $54 million at the box office since it was released in theaters earlier this month.
The Hollywood star plays Father Gabrielle Amorth in the supernatural thriller, a real-life figure who was stationed in the Vatican and reportedly performed 60,000 exorcisms.
Speaking on 2Day FM’s breakfast show on Thursday, 59-year-old Russell said he was thrilled that the response to the film has been phenomenal.
“I’m glad people are responding to it, they seem to have fallen in love with the character and I had a lot of fun playing the character, but you never know if people will understand or if you look like an idiot. ‘ he said.

‘So far I have only heard positive things from people.’
However, the radio hosts preferred to talk about money, so they asked Russell how much he makes for the film – and he gave them a very rude answer.
“From a financial perspective, if you want details, I’ve been amply taken care of, and if you want more details on the ongoing — there’s a kiss at every turn,” he laughed.
“I’ve been in the business for a long time and one of the things I’ve always been sure of is that I like being paid to work because I know the kind of dedication I’m putting into something.”
Speaking on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show on Thursday, 59-year-old Russell said the response to the film was phenomenal.
The hosts then pushed Russell further on the subject, asking if the “kiss at every turn” was a cock or a pass.
“Oh my lord, it’s not like that at all, because there are other people with whom you share it,” he said, laughing.
“So it’s more group sex.”
Despite the film’s success at the box office, it was not all positive feedback for the film as it was criticized by Vatican exorcists.
The International Association of Exorcists (IAE) has branded the photo “unreliable splatter” while claiming the title is “pretentious.”
The radio hosts were eager to talk about money, as the movie is expected to gross over $70 million, so they asked Russell how much he makes for the movie, and he gave them a very rude answer.

The group went on to say that the film creates “unacceptable doubt” in the audience as to who “is the real enemy, the devil or the ecclesiastical power.”
They said in a statement: “The end result is to instill a belief that exorcism is an abnormal, monstrous and terrifying phenomenon, whose only protagonist is the devil, whose violent reactions can be fought with great difficulty.
“This is the exact opposite of what happens in the context of exorcisms celebrated in the Catholic Church in obedience to the guidelines it gives.”
Although the Catholic Church officially recognizes exorcism, its innovators see it as a medieval hangover that plays on superstition to reinforce religious devotion.
