Russell Brand hires Prince Andrew’s ‘pit bull’ lawyer Andrew Brettler to fight the sex charges he faces

Russell Brand has hired Prince Andrew’s ‘pit bull’ lawyer to fight sexual harassment charges in the US.

The Mail on Sunday has learned that the 48-year-old, who last week described the rape allegations against him as a ‘painful, hurtful attack’, has signed a contract with Hollywood mogul Andrew Brettler.

Mr Brettler represented the Duke of York in the civil lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked in sex trafficking by pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Her case was settled out of court in 2022 for a reported $12 million with no admission of liability by Prince Andrew, who has consistently and vehemently denied all charges against him.

Mr Brettler, who also represents actor Armie Hammer – who has been accused of rape and “cannibalistic fantasies” – reportedly charges clients up to $2,000 an hour for his expertise.

Last night the lawyer confirmed he is representing Brand, saying: ‘I am only aware of one US case against Mr Brand. I am counsel in this case.”

The case involves a woman known only as “Jane Doe,” who filed suit last November in the New York State Supreme Court alleging the comedian and actor assaulted her on the set of his 2011 film Arthur was released.

According to her affidavit, on July 7, 2010, Brand “appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set” before exposing himself “in full view of the cast and crew.”

Later that day, she claims, Brand sexually assaulted her in a bathroom while a crew member guarded the door from outside.

Last week, Brand spoke to ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson in an interview on Twitter, referencing claims from at least five women who accused him of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse.

The woman is suing for damages because she experiences ongoing trauma from the alleged abuse. She fears that if her name becomes public, it will jeopardize her acting career.

A lawyer who has worked with Brettler told The Mail on Sunday: ‘People call him a pit bull, but he’s more advanced than that. He has a huge brain and will use every weapon in his legal arsenal to defend his clients. Russell Brand is in very good and very expensive hands.”

No charges have been laid in Britain and Brand denies any wrongdoing.

He told Carlson: “I reject the allegations in the strongest possible terms. I am aware that I have put myself in an extremely vulnerable position by being very, very promiscuous.”

Brand was last night accused of ‘bullying and victimisation’ by the lawyer for one of his alleged victims, over comments he made this week, calling the charges against him ‘painful and hurtful’.

Attorney Jordan Merson is representing a woman who has filed a civil lawsuit in New York against the star, claiming he exposed himself to her on the set of his film “Arthur” in 2010 and later sexually assaulted her in a bathroom.

Mr. Merson said Brand’s interview last week with former Fox TV host Tucker Carlson, which was posted on X, formerly Twitter, would not deter his client, known only as Jane Doe, from pursuing her case:

“Unfortunately, this type of behavior is not uncommon among individuals who have sexually abused other people.

“It’s all part of distraction, bullying and victim shaming.

‘Brand’s comments were unfortunate, but do not discourage us at all.

‘We have a lot of confidence in this case, which is still in its infancy. There is good confirmation.

“This is about a woman who, as we allege in our lawsuits, was sexually assaulted by Mr. Brand.”
