“It was my whole childhood”: Rupert Grint confirms he would reprise his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise “if the time was right and they all came back”

Rupert Grint has confirmed that he would be up for a reprise of his beloved role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.

The 34-year-old actor landed the role of the young wizard at the age of just 11 and said he would be prepared to return in some capacity as long as “the time was right and everyone came back.”

Speaking during an appearance on This Morning on Thursday, Rupert admitted that he feels “protective” of Ron and would like to see what he’s up to now because the role was “his whole childhood”.

Phillip asked, ‘Would you bring Ron back? Wouldn’t you really object to seeing what he’s doing now?

Rupert replied: ‘I think if the timing was right and they all came back. He was a character that was important to me, we became the same person.

I also protect him. It was all my childhood.

Joking about his lack of acting credentials before landing the role in the film adaptation of JK Rowling’s much-loved novel, he added: “I was a fish in a school play before that!”

The actor starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), both 32, in Wizarding World for eight films.

Two decades after first hitting screens, the trio reunited in 2021 when they returned to Hogwarts for the franchise’s 20th anniversary at Warner Bros. Studios.

Rupert now stars in a new psychological thriller, Knock At The Cabin, his first film role in eight years, opposite actor Ben Aldridge, who joined him in This Morning.

They both admitted that they got scared while filming some of the scenes, as they were forced to overcome their fears.

Rupert said: 'I think if the timing was right and everyone came back. He was a character that was important to me, we became the same person. I am protective with him too'

Rupert said: ‘This entangles my two fears. It was quite stressful!

Ben admitted: ‘I enjoyed it, but it was scary. Is it scary to do it? Yes! There’s like two different worlds, everyone came into the cast and it was very lighthearted, and a bit like being at drama camp.

“But as soon as you walked into that cabin, the temperature would change and you’d be tied to a chair and I’d start to feel the fear that the characters would feel…”

When Rupert was asked why he keeps doing scary things again, he smiled and said: ‘I know! I need to do a Christmas comedy movie or something…

Both have American accents in the new thriller and they worked with a trainer to perfect them.

Rupert explained: ‘I have done [before] so i’m getting used to it. You have to be aware of what you do with your tongue in your mouth when you speak, it’s very different.

‘Americans have a very different form of language in what they do with it, I don’t know! It’s very technical!

Rupert is now a father after welcoming his daughter on Wednesday with long-term partner Georgia Groome in 2020.
