Rumors about the new Nintendo Switch 2 suggest the console’s battery life will be ‘crazy low’ in handheld mode
New rumors suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have better performance in docked mode, but perhaps not so much in handheld mode.
During a recent discussion about the Broken Silicon podcast between content creators Moore’s Law Is Dead and The Phawx about Nintendo’s next console, it was said that they expect some Xbox Series S-level ray-tracing for the device and that battery life will be much different compared to the launch of the Nintendo Switch (via IGN).
Moore’s Law Is Dead specifically stated that they’ve heard rumors that the Switch 2’s battery life will be “clocked faster than we expect” when it’s in dock mode, no matter how disconnected it will be insanely low. “
The content creator says this is because Nintendo wants better battery life than the previous generation, while The Phawx adds that the company wants to both extend battery life and allow the console to have a low-speed fan.
Nintendo hasn’t officially announced the next Switch console yet, but we’ve heard a lot of rumors floating around as the company – as well as Sony and Microsoft – look towards the next console generation.
If a Switch 2 is revealed, news is largely expected by the end of this year, although a report from the Japanese media outlet Nikkei has reported that the arrival of the console itself could be delayed until 2025 to avoid stock shortages, which is in line with what leaks say about the Switch 2 will launch in early 2025.
More recently, we learned that a Nintendo executive hinted that Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility, allowing users to pay for their current Switch games on the next-generation device.
