Rumer Willis confirms split from baby daddy Derek Richard Thomas: ‘I am single momming it and co-parenting’
Rumer Willis confirmed her split from Derek Richard Thomas, 16 months after the birth of their daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, in April 2023.
The daughter of former Hollywood couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore announced the news during an Instagram AMA (ask me anything).
When a fan asked if she and Derek were still together, the 36-year-old actress responded, “No, I’m a single mom and co-parent.”
“I’m so grateful for Lou,” she continued. “She’s the best thing in my life and I’m forever grateful that I had the time in that relationship for her to come into my life.”
It’s not known exactly when Rumer and Derek first started dating, but they first went public with their romance in November 2022.

The split comes nearly a year and a half after the couple had their first child together.
In March, Rumer took to social media to say she “absolutely” wanted more children and that she wanted to be “pregnant now.”
Earlier this year she also talked about her search for her ‘way back’ to herself after giving birth.
“Last year was incredibly dynamic. I raised a little person and had a home birth (without medication), surrounded by my family,” she continues.
‘I built a new relationship during my pregnancy and postpartum period, fell in love with the little love of my life Lou, mellowed out, became less resistant to my own bullshit, threw pots on a wheel, went swimming in the ocean four times a week in the winter at 6am and learned what real intimacy looks like.’
She continued, “I’m working on being the most honest and authentic version of myself, healing my trauma so I don’t pass it on to my daughter, celebrating 7 years of sobriety, and showing myself that I’m not a wimp haha.
“I took a dip in the icy river, loved myself more than ever, felt more beautiful and comfortable in my own skin than ever, laughed, cried, fought, screamed, took responsibility, met new friends…” she continued.

In December 2022, the couple announced that they were expecting a child, just months after announcing their relationship on Instagram.
Earlier that year, he honored Rumer via his social media account with a sweet birthday message.
“In the short time we’ve been together, you’ve filled my life with joy and peace,” he cheered. “Everything is so easy with you.”
Derek continued, “We sing, we dance, we play, and most of all we laugh. Thank you for being you. You are a magical person, I am so glad you came into my life.”

From the moment they heard they were going to be parents, they were “so excited,” Rumer says.
“It was never a question for me that I wanted to be a mother,” she said on a February 2023 episode of Peggy Rometo and Kimberly Van Der Beek’s podcast Bathroom Chronicles. “And that just felt like a divine purpose and something that, when I thought about it, felt like a great joy.”
When he celebrated Valentine’s Day last year in 2023, he shared an adorable slideshow of photos of Rumer from their relationship and her pregnancy.
“You are the best partner I could ever ask for, I love being with you. Thank you for believing in my dreams, laughing at my jokes and always playing along,” he captioned the post. “I am so glad you are who you are. You are honestly so kind, funny, talented, intelligent, sexy and wise. You have changed my life forever, for the better.”

Derek is the frontman and lead singer of a band called Vista Kicks
He continued, “I am beyond grateful that we get to start a family together. Thank you for raising our child from scratch, I have so much awe and respect for this journey you are on. We are on this together, but you are doing all the hard work and all I get to do is cheer you on, feed you tacos and appreciate you.”

Derek is the frontman and lead singer of the band Vista Kicks.
Last year, the artist announced that he was taking a break from his band, but would continue to make and produce music independently.
