Rugby player Israel Folau sells more real estate as the football star offers a $2 million retreat in Queensland

Israel Folau and his wife Maria have put their $2 million retreat in the Brisbane, Queensland suburbs on the agenda.

The rugby star, 34, bought the three-bedroom, country-style property in 2021 for $1.5 million when he took it off the hands of mining manager Nathan Tinkler.

After renovating the 10-acre “semiral escape,” the Urayasu D-Rocks fullback flipped the property with a target price of $1.75-1.95 million, reported Domain on Friday.

The outback-style house sits on an expansive stretch of land covered with native Australian flora and fauna.

A deep shaded porch overlooks the property with the renovated interior featuring polished floors, a provincial style kitchen and a server window.

It is the second property Israel is said to have sold in two months after the Japan-based athlete listed an investment property in Little Bay for $1.15 million in July.

With his Kenthurst estate bought for $3.8 million more than a year ago and his Liverpool home sold last year, the footy star is believed to have a property portfolio worth more than $8 million.

It comes after Israel was briefly set to rejoin the NRL in February 2021 with the St George-Illawarra Dragons.

But the club suddenly backed out of the deal, apparently fearing the main sponsor, St George Bank, was unhappy with the signing after the evangelical made homophobic comments online.

Rumors circulated of behind-the-scenes discussions to figure out how Israel could make his way back to the NRL, where it was believed he would like to play again.

A conclusion suggested he could return through the back door by moving up from a team in the second-tier Queensland Cup competition – over which the NRL has no jurisdiction.

Queensland Rugby League chairman Bruce Hatcher was quoted by news.com.au as saying there will be ‘no legal impediment to the man playing again’ – although he also admitted there could be a backlash .

Any backlash probably doesn’t seem to be coming from NRL fans.

A survey, admittedly commissioned by Australia’s Christian Lobby, in April 2021 found that 69 percent of NRL fans would support Israel’s return to the competition.
