The Prince and Princess of Wales gave a behind-the-scenes look at their encounters with the Welsh and England rugby teams yesterday.

Prince William, 40, and Kate, 41, dressed in a recycled red and white Catherine Walker houndstooth coat, watched the two groups battle it out in a Six Nations clash yesterday at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

After the game, the royal couple spoke to the two teams in their dressing rooms, and photos of the meetings were shared with the Prince and Princess of Wales. Twitter account this afternoon.

For yesterday’s outing, the Princess of Wales opted for a bespoke coat by royal favorite Catherine Walker, which she first debuted in 2018 during a trip to Sweden.

She combined the garment with a high-necked black dress and thick stockings to combat the February cold. Black suede ankle boots completed her look.

The Princess of Wales also carried a small cream handbag and a pair of black leather-look gloves which she later wore when she went up to the stands for rugby.

Kate, a mother of three, cheered her team on to victory as she watched the England game along with William, a Wales supporter.

Kate, a sponsor of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the Rugby Football League (RFL), and William, a sponsor of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) since 2016, appeared in high spirits at the event.

But it was Kate who has bragging rights after her team won against their rivals, with England beating Wales 20-10 as the final siren blew.

The famously competitive royal couple were in the stands at the Principality Stadium to cheer on their respective teams in their Six Nations tie.

In a message on Twitter translated into English and Welsh during the game, the pair said: ‘What a great half of rugby! Bring the next 40 minutes.

Kate took over the rugby roles of her brother-in-law Prince Harry, who used to enjoy cheering for England before he was forced to forgo sponsorship as part of the Megxit deal.

She has played tennis and hockey from a very young age and is already a Royal Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and is a frequent visitor to the Wimbledon Championships.

Less known is his love for rugby. Her sister, Pippa, wrote in Vanity Fair magazine in 2014: “Rugby was a big thing for our family, we planned our weekends around the big games.”

Saturday’s match was only given the green light three days before kick-off after the Welsh players called off the strike when a deal was reached over a series of contract disputes with their Welsh rugby bosses.

“Hopefully we never end up in this situation again,” Wales captain Ken Owens said. “The most positive thing we can take from all this is how united the players have been and how much we have supported each other.
