Rudy Giuliani is disbarred in New York for ‘misleading’ comments about election

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been suspended from practicing law after the city accused him of making false statements about Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.

The name of the former federal prosecutor and Trump adviser has been “struck off the register of attorneys and counsel in the State of New York” and is prohibited from being involved in any legal proceedings in the state.

The decision was made today by the New York State Appellate Division Courthouse in Manhattan and is effective immediately.

Giuliani had previously had his New York law license revoked for false statements he made following the 2020 presidential election (Joe Biden vs. Trump).

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been suspended from practicing law after the city alleged he made false statements about Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.

After the Republican candidate suffered a crushing loss in the last national election, Giuliani quickly became the lead spokesperson for Trump’s false claims of voter fraud after the results were announced.

The former mayor was in the spotlight, holding a press conference outside Four Seasons Total Landscaping outside Philadelphia on the day the election was called, saying the GOP would stand up to what he called a vast conspiracy by Democrats.

It is widely believed that lies surrounding the election results fueled the January 6, 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump rioters to prevent Biden’s victory from being officially recognized.

In May, Giuliani’s conservative talk radio show was canceled after he repeatedly cast doubt on the 2020 election results.

The station’s billionaire owner, John Catsimatidis, abruptly ended the campaign over Giuliani’s election claims.

“John had warned him a few times not to do that, but in the end he just overstepped the mark,” Catsimatidis producer Matt Wanning told DailyMail.com.

Asked about possible legal exposure to Giuliani’s claims, particularly Dominion Voting Systems, he replied, “Oh yeah. It’s been circulating for a while.”

He did not know whether the station had specifically received a warning letter from the voting machine company, which reached a $787 million settlement with Fox News in 2023.

Giuliani strongly criticized the decision in a statement to DailyMail.com, indicating he had no direct knowledge of his suspension.

“I know from a leak to the New York Times that I am being fired by John Catsimatidis and WABC for refusing to comply with their overly broad policy that literally states that I am ‘prohibited from participating in discussions about the 2020 presidential election,’” he fumed.

“This directive is a clear violation of freedom of speech and I will talk more about this later in my livestream at 8pm ET, which you can watch on all of my social media platforms, including X, Facebook or YouTube,” he said, promoting his own digital program.

A May 9 letter from Red Apple Media, signed by Catsimatidis, begins in bold: “This letter is to remind you that you are prohibited from discussing the 2020 presidential election on any of your programs on WABC Radio.”

It then states: ‘It has come to our attention that you are continuing to post allegations of this nature on social media, and that additional court documents are now being filed against you accusing you of this behavior, as reported by Bloomberg Law this week.

That was a reference to a new legal claim by Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea’ Arshaye “Shaye” Moss, who won a $148 million legal settlement against Giuliani.

The WABC show offers a financial life to Giuliani, who won that verdict after a jury found he defamed two Georgia election workers. Giuliani has appealed.

Giuliani was indicted in Georgia along with Trump and other alleged accomplices.

Giuliani spoke to Trump supporters on January 6. It is widely known that lies surrounding the election results served as a catalyst for pro-Trump riots to storm the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of Biden's victory.

On his final radio show, he predicted that the secret documents case against Trump would be dismissed and called for special counsel Jack Smith to be brought to trial. “I look forward to the fact that if Trump wins, he will be investigated,” he said.

After the firing, Giuliani took to Twitter to lash out at the decision.

‘John Catsimatidis and @77ABCradio fired me for refusing to comply with their overly broad directive that I ‘may not participate in conversations about the 2020 Presidential election.’

“John says I knew about these restrictions in advance, which is demonstrably false. I have been a regular commentator on the 2020 election for 3 1/2 years and have been talking about the Georgia case non-stop since the verdict. WABC hosts have asked me questions about these issues.

‘I was of course never made aware of such a policy, and if it did exist, it was violated so often that it could not be taken seriously.’
