Ruby Rose lands major new role in thriller following difficult period in Hollywood

Australian actress Ruby Rose has landed a lead role in a chilling new Hollywood murder mystery called The Drowning Pool.

No details have yet been released about which character the 38-year-old will play in the thriller, which is directed by David Hackl.

Set in the Canary Islands, the story centers on a woman who investigates the disappearance of her sister after a drowning is reported.

The woman, named Katherine, discovers a series of ‘mysterious’ disappearances of other women in the waters surrounding the islands.

The official synopsis states that Katherine eventually uncovers a horrifying tale of “ritual evil.”

Preparations for the chiller’s on-location filming in the Canary Islands are already in full swing, reports Term on wednesday.

The director is Canadian filmmaker David, who made Saw V (2018), a film from the infamous gory horror franchise.

This comes after Ruby recently returned to the spotlight following her controversial departure from the Batwoman series in 2020.

The Melbourne-born woman, whose real name is Ruby Rose Langenheim, began her showbiz career as a model, DJ and TV presenter for MTV Australia.

As her popularity grew, she became the face of major modeling campaigns for big names like Maybelline and co-hosted popular shows like Channel 10’s The Project and Australia’s Next Top Model.

In 2013, she moved to Hollywood to pursue acting and rose to fame in 2015 with her breakthrough role in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.

The gender-neutral star’s acting career took off when she was cast in blockbusters like Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).

She starred opposite Hollywood favorite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017) and opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017).

In 2018, Ruby starred opposite Jason Statham in the science fiction thriller The Meg.

However, her career took a downhill turn in 2020, when she left the controversial CW superhero series Batwoman after just one season.

The star claimed that working conditions on the set of the superhero series were poor.

“To my dear, dear fans who still ask if I will return to that horrible show: I would not return for any amount of money, or if a gun was pointed to my head… I AM NOT QUITE,” she wrote in a scathing online post.

“I DIDN’T GIVE UP, they ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me.”

Since then, she has starred in the films Stowaway, Vanquish, 1UP, and Taurus in 2021 and 2022.

She also starred in the 2023 American action film The Collective and the Middle Eastern war film Dirty Angels.

Ruby also writes her revealing memoir, in which she discusses, among other things, her feud with Lisa and Jessica Origliasso of The Veronicas.

The star was in a relationship with Jess from 2016 to 2018. During that period, the relationship between the sisters became so strained that they almost broke up.

Ruby announced on Instagram last year that she had started writing her book, promising to expose the pop twins, whom she did not name but referred to as “the sisters,” because she found them “so awful.”

She also claimed that the “truth” she wrote “would anger a lot of people.”

In an interview with The Kyle and Jackie O Show a few months after their split, Jessica said she was in “a very complicated relationship.”

She added: ‘I’m still trying to live with reality every day, so it’s very difficult to explain it to anyone.

“There’s just so much that’s happened, so much that I can’t even take it all in.”
