Ruben Amorim has questioned the influence Marcus Rashford’s camp has on him after the troubled Manchester United star said he is ready for a new challenge.
Rashford made the eye-catching claim in an interview last week after being dropped for the Manchester derby and has now been left out of the last three games by Amorim.
The United boss believes Rashford’s representatives may have been responsible for putting the idea of speaking out in the 27-year-old’s head, but now wants to put the drama behind him and focus on getting him back to get on the field.
“It’s a difficult situation,” Amorim said. ‘I understand that these players have a lot of people around them and sometimes make choices that are not the player’s first idea. I understand, I can separate things.
‘I’m always there to help Marcus, just like any other player. They have to do what they have to do. They chose to do the interview because it wasn’t just about Marcus. I understand that.’
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim added: ‘As a coach I only concentrate on the performance and the way he trains. For the rest, it is better for me and the club to deal with it when the time comes.

Amorim believes it was not Rashford’s decision to give the impressive interview about his future
United fans showed their support for Rashford, who has been left out of the final three squads
“Right now I’m focusing on improving Marcus. We need a talented guy like Marcus right now. I’ll forget about the interview now and see what I see on the field.’
Amorim dropped Rashford from the squad as he was unhappy with the player’s attitude and performance level during training.
It is understood that United will not put pressure on the head coach to select Rashford, even though excluding him could impact his value if he is sold in the January transfer window.
He was valued at £100m after scoring 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford, but that figure is believed to have already been halved.
There is little point in leaving a player earning £315,000 a week on the sidelines, but the United hierarchy are refusing to get involved in the situation, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, director Sir Dave Brailsford and CEO Omar Berrada. and technical director Jason Wilcox leaves Amorim to make the team selection decision.
While Alejandro Garnacho was left off the derby for similar reasons, the Argentine winger played off the bench in the last two matches against Tottenham and Bournemouth, while Rashford remained isolated.
Amorim has left the door open for Rashford to return to Wolves on Boxing Day but has given no guarantee he will be brought in from the cold.
