- Marcus Rashford did not travel to North London with his Man United teammates
- The winger announced on Monday that he is ready to leave the Red Devils
- LISTEN NOW: It all starts! Are Tottenham managers treated differently to other managers?
Ruben Amorim has explained why Marcus Rashford was left out of Man United’s squad against Tottenham for the second time in a row.
The Red Devils travel to North London to take on Ange Postecoglou’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
The Portuguese manager insisted United’s top earner was not ruled out following his impressive interview on Monday, in which he revealed he is ready for a ‘new challenge’ away from United after 20 years at the club.
‘Selection. I have chosen the players who I think are ready to meet the demands of a strong game,” Amorim told Sky Sports.
‘So I try to visualize the whole week and then choose my players.’
Asked whether Rashford was left out because of his attitude on the training pitch, Amorim argued that the standards he demands are synonymous with his entire team, and not just relevant to the 27-year-old superstar.

Ruben Amorim insisted the 27-year-old’s comments were not the reason behind his omission from United’s traveling squad to play Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
‘It’s always the same with every player, not just Marcus. So in the end I had to make a selection and I did that,” he said.
Amorim refused to close the door on Rashford’s career on Wednesday by insisting he wants to keep the winger going forward, but Mail Sport previously revealed the club would be willing to sanction a sale for a fee of around £40 million.
Alejandro Garnacho, who was also left out of Amorim’s selection against the champions on Sunday, has returned to action on the bench. The manager praised his efforts in training since the weekend.
‘Like the others, he is willing to play the game. I really like the way he trained,” Amorim said.
“So it’s still an option for the offense. he’s really fast. He is good one-on-one, and we need that kind of ability from Garnacho.”
