New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended Marcus Rashford and Casemiro after the pair were criticized for flying to the United States during the international break amid demands for a change in norms.

Rashford, who was again not selected by Lee Carsley for England’s final Nations League matches last week, enjoyed his Three Lions exile last Friday by traveling to the United States to watch an NBA match between New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets at Madison Square Garden.

Meanwhile, Casemiro traveled to Orlando during the international break and posted photos of him and his family at Disney World on Instagram.

Gary Neville was among those who questioned the professionalism of the two players and he asked Amorim for his opinion on the situation in an interview on Air sports.

“You’re talking about professionalism, I have to ask you about this because I made a comment about Casemiro and Marcus Rashford traveling to America in their few days off,” Marcel told the Portuguese.

‘I was just thinking, as a former United player, you’ve got a few days off, the club is 13th in the league, the manager has just been sacked, it’s a challenging part of the season and the new manager is about to come in.

‘That focus and that preparation, every little detail is very important. I said that I don’t think I would have chosen that trip to go to America with the time difference. do you feel comfortable with it?’

Amorim replied, “The first thing was that it was five days off. The second thing is that they have been given information about five days off and they are big boys, they have children, so they decide what to do.

‘The main question here is that the club has to set the standard and manage it. it’s my decision whether they can have five days as a coach or three days. Or if you have three days of rest, you cannot fly. This is something the club has to decide.

‘Would you have done it differently?’ Neville asked.

‘Of course. But you can’t blame this on the players. they told them they had five days off so they could fly anywhere.

‘No one in the club said they can’t fly. They have to live their lives because they are grown men and they have to decide these things. We as a club need to change these norms.”

Neville made headlines on Thursday with his comments about Rashford and Casemiro.

“The professionalism, taking care of your body and making sure you’re well prepared for the next training session is vital to every decision you make during the season,” Neville said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet .

‘He’s on a mental break, he needs to get away and rest with friends – then you talk about choice of location, how far are you flying, what’s the time difference, is that going to cause a jetlag problem? , is that going to cause a stiffness problem if you’re on a flight for 12 hours?

‘This is more about Casemiro than Rashford, but if I’m 30 years old and I take care of my body, and he has won five Champions Leagues and is an incredible player, but if he was away for ten days with Brazil, we would doing.’ saying he would have a hard time this weekend because he was away.

‘They opted for that international breakthrough. “When you’re talking about the little details of being as professional as possible and being as prepared as possible for a Monday night training session, that’s not the best choice of venue.”
