Royals will be ‘dreading’ new series of The Crown after learning it will feature the ghost of Diana, Princess of Wales, experts tell PALACE CONFIDENTIAL

Revelations in the Mail that future episodes of The Crown will feature the ghost of Diana, Princess of Wales, will be extremely unwelcome news for the royal family, according to a royal expert.

According to reports, the ghost of the dead princess, played by Elizabeth Debicki, will have an emotional reconciliation with a grieving Charles, played by Dominic West, in the sixth and final series of the show, which will air in two part – the first. next month, and the second in December.

She then reappears in ghostly form to Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton, as they discuss funeral arrangements with Charles – with her appearance appearing to bring the Queen to tears in the series, which will be broadcast by next month.

Speaking on this week’s episode of Palace Confidential, Daily Mail editor Richard Eden said he believes The Firm will be in awe of Netflix’s new royal drama series.

Daily Mail editor Richard Eden (pictured) told Palace Confidential that the Royal Family are dreading the sixth and final series of The Crown.

“From what I hear, every time there’s a new series there’s a collective groan in the Palace, ‘oh not again,'” he told the royal chat show.

Richard added: “I think one of the worst aspects of being in the Royal Family is having to put up with this sort of thing.

“Now it’s become this kind of weird soap opera, I think they’ll be afraid of the new series.”

And Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English, meanwhile, believes the show’s producers have made some ‘uncomfortable decisions’ and gone too far with series 6 of the Netflix show.

“I personally think the makers of The Crown have shot themselves in the foot with this,” she told the programme.

“These are very personal, private moments that are really sensational, the moment with Charles and (the ghost of) Diana comes right after he is seen crying over her coffin in Paris. Some people will say it’s very uncomfortable.’

Speaking previously about the upcoming series of the royal drama, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told MailOnline that ‘the idea that they’ve even thought of Diana as a ghost seems absolutely outlandish’, especially given the controversial elements already swirling around the show .

Fitzwilliams said: “It’s going to be a controversial series in every way with what they’re already showing – the Panorama documentary, her death and the funeral – and in my opinion they should never have done this last series in the first place.

The whole idea that (show creator) Peter Morgan wrote Diana’s ghostly appearances is completely tasteless.

“It’s unfortunate that someone of his caliber has reduced what is clearly a tragedy to something he knows full well will be controversial.

“The idea that he has written a ghostly figure of Prince William and Harry’s mother is obviously tasteless and the whole concept, whatever ghosts say or do, seems completely outlandish.

Fitzwilliams said Charles will remain silent in the portrayal, but his two sons, Princes Harry and William, may speak out – after both criticized the BBC in 2021 over Martin Bashir’s infamous Panorama interview with Diana in 1995.

He added: “We can hear what they think about the portrayal but the problem is if they make a statement it will only add to the hype surrounding The Crown and there you have a problem.

“If Prince William or Prince Harry commented on it, it would make headlines and even more people would watch it than they thought.

“If they would watch such a thing, of course I have no idea. The king will make absolutely no comment. I think the Royal Family decided a long time ago what they thought of The Crown – which seems to have completely abandoned taste.’

Fitzwilliams went on to criticize the production as a whole, claiming that the portrayal of Diana’s ghost was nothing more than a publicity stunt and that the latest series, which has already come under fire for recreating Diana’s death in Paris, should not have been never done.

“It also appears to be a publicity stunt and you get the impression there’s nothing they wouldn’t do to get publicity,” he said.

“The Crown is controversial enough as it is and I really believe there shouldn’t be a series finale considering the damage that has already been done.

“What’s so strange is that this series was already controversial and to put a ghost in charge of that is absolutely pathetic and tasteless.”

Meanwhile, brand and culture expert Nick Ede added that the brothers could be ‘shocked’ by the depiction of their late mother and it would be ‘quite stirring’.

He told MailOnline: ‘Producers have said that Diana’s ghost portrays ‘visualisations of deeper thoughts’, but of course it will be quite provocative and may cause discomfort.

“William and Harry I’m sure will find it difficult to accept this as they have no idea what Diana was feeling and where her emotions were at the time, so this factional drama becomes one of fantasy and speculation that can terrify the couple as it changes state. account of the memory of their beloved mother,” he said.

A Netflix source said Debicki’s show after Diana’s death was meant to be a ‘visualization of innermost thoughts’ rather than interpreted as ‘supernatural’.
