Royal Mail could see multiple companies stop using their parcel delivery service in the run-up to Christmas as retailers scramble to ensure the main festive sales period is not stifled by strike action.

It follows news that electronics retailer Currys has dropped Royal Mail as its delivery partner ahead of the pre-Christmas rush.

AJ Bell investment director Russ Mold said it was “certainly a possibility” that more companies would follow suit. “There’s no shortage of other parcel companies,” Mold said.

Currys’ move – which only covers smaller goods and is expected to be temporary – came as Royal Mail pushed forward final Christmas mail dates by a week as more payment strikes have been announced.
