James, Earl of Wessex, 16, stands shoulder-to-shoulder with his father Prince Edward – and towers above the Duchess of Edinburgh – at Easter Sunday service

James, Earl of Wessex, showed off his latest growth spurt this morning at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, with the exalted teenager now towering over his mother.

James, 16, was seen arriving for the annual Easter Sunday service with his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

The schoolboy looked dapper in a navy blue suit, teamed with a light blue tie and a crisp white shirt, along with black polished shoes.

The royal was pictured standing next to his father Prince Edward, 60, who was believed to be around 6ft tall.

The Duke’s teenage son has almost outgrown him, and photos show he is now almost the same height.

Royal fans expressed how much they thought James, Earl of Wessex had grown over the years

Royal fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to talk about James

Royal enthusiasts took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their disbelief at young Earl’s height.

One wrote: ‘James, Earl of Wessex is attending the Easter Mattins Service today at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. He’s so big now.’

Another wrote: ‘Can we talk about the height of James, Earl of Wessex, eh?!?’

A third commented: ‘James, Earl of Wessex looks so grown up.’

James lives with his parents in Bagshot Park, a 17th-century estate near Windsor.

The 15th in line to the throne, and the youngest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was born James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor on December 17, 2007 in Surrey.

This morning the family arrived at the castle with Princess Anne, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence and Fergie.

King Charles and Queen Camilla followed closely in a separate car.

The monarch smiled and waved at the crowd of royal fans who stood outside Windsor Castle to show their support for the royal family.

Elsewhere, leading members of the royal family put on a show of sartorial solidarity today by donning shades of traditional Easter green.

Many of the senior royals appeared to coordinate their looks at the traditional service, with Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and Sarah Ferguson all looking elegant in green.

Camilla grinned widely at those gathered as she arrived alongside the monarch at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, this morning.

Last year, the monarch led his family on foot to St George’s Chapel in Windsor, where he was joined by William, Kate and their three children.

It comes a week after the monarch’s daughter-in-law Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

William and Kate will not attend the service, which is unlikely to be a major family gathering or service, while Charles has suspended royal duties to the public.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children George, Charlotte and Louis will not be attending the event. Instead, the family spends the holidays together following Kate’s cancer diagnosis.

Prince Andrew led the procession of the remaining royals as they arrived at the chapel for the ceremony today.

Aides have reportedly said that His Majesty’s presence at any event is “to be hoped and planned rather than assumed” as he continues to focus on his health.

Charles’ engagement today will be seen as an attempt by the king to reassure the public after the shocking news.

The king has been treated for an unknown form of cancer since early February, after undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate at the London Clinic.

William is expected to return to public duties after his children return to school after the Easter holidays.

For now, he will continue to balance supporting his wife and family with carrying out his official duties, as he has done since her surgery in January. Queen Camilla replaced the king earlier this week at the century-old Royal Maundy ceremony in Worcester, marking the first time a consort has performed the role on behalf of the monarch.
