Vital member of popular royal family admits to cocaine and alcohol struggles after shock arrest: ‘I have several mental disorders’

The Norwegian royal family is currently under scrutiny after Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son was arrested following a “night of alcohol and cocaine” that reportedly ended in violence and vandalism.

The popular princess’s eldest common-law son, Marius Borg Høiby, was first arrested on August 4 after being reported for violence, threats and vandalism.

He has since been arrested on additional charges, including death threats and harassment, and violating a restraining order.

The 27-year-old man released a statement about his arrest through his lawyer Braitlin, which was shared with Norwegian media NRK. In the statement, he admits to struggling with drugs and his mental health.

“I have multiple mental health disorders, which means I have had and continue to have challenges throughout my childhood and adult life. I have struggled with substance abuse for a long time, something I have sought treatment for in the past. I am now resuming that treatment and I take it very seriously,” he said.

He said he wanted to “be responsible for what he did” and “give an honest explanation to the police.”

“Something happened that should never have happened. I caused bodily harm and destroyed property in an apartment, under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, after an argument,” he said.

According to Oslo police, two ex-girlfriends have also filed charges against the stepson of the future king of Norway.

“The charges against Høiby have been extended. So far, there are four victims in the case. The Oslo police district is investigating the case with high priority,” a police statement said.

‘The charges for the victim of the Frogner incident have been expanded to include reckless endangerment and violating a restraining order, in addition to an additional count of bodily harm from an earlier incident.’

‘For victim Juliane Snekkestad and victim Nora Haukland, both cases involved abuse in intimate relationships.’

Høiby is also accused of threats against another person. The report in this case was made by the police.

He spent 30 hours in police custody after the original clash on August 4. Local media reported that photos showed a knife stuck in the wall of the apartment.

Høiby is no stranger to scandal and left his official royal duties at the age of 20 after a series of scandals.

It is believed his mother skipped her trip to the Paris Olympics to stay with her son, who she had before marrying a member of the royal family.

She previously described her firstborn son as an “important member” of the family.

“He has always played a public role that is very difficult to define,” she added.

Crown Prince Haakon told the media that the matter was serious, but he did not want to go into details of the case.

Høiby was hunting with friends when he was arrested for allegedly violating a restraining order against one of his victims.

Danish lawyer Mette Grith Stage spoke to gossip magazine BT about the case and said it is unusual for members of a royal family to be involved in such cases.

“It is clear that if this continues, it may become relevant to remand him in custody, because this is the only way to keep him at bay.”
