Royal biographer Angela Levin has claimed that Prince Harry has been ‘nasty’ about Queen Consort Camilla and that the hit Netflix series The Crown was ‘cruel’ to her.
Following the release of her new Camilla biography, From Outcast to Future Queen Consort, the author sat down with Lorraine stand-in presenter Christine Lampard to talk candidly about the Queen Consort.
Christine Lampard said, “Angela, you felt compelled to write this book because you knew her and felt she had been misrepresented over the years and you wanted to see your version of events.”
Angela said, “Yeah, that’s actually right. I decided I needed to rebalance things. One was The Crown, who was very cruel to her, and the other was Prince Harry, who had also said very nasty things about her.’

In The Crown, Camilla says she is simply a mistress of the Prince of Wales, as is her great-grandmother, Alice Keppel, who was the mistress of King Edward VII, King Charles’ great-great-grandfather.
Charles confirms that Edward loved Alice in the series, but it focuses more on Diana’s torment during the marriage.
The biographer, who has written nine non-fiction books targeting senior members of the royal family, claims that depictions of the queen consort have been unfair, stating that ‘the more you get to know her, the more you love her’.
In 2015, Angela revealed that she spent three months with Camilla writing a long piece.
She sought people to tell about the royal family, those who had worked with her in her various charitable activities, collaborators and friends in an effort to make the book as plausible as possible.
Angela also revealed that Camilla invited her to meet the Queen, in a subtle move to show her that “despite rumors, the couple had a close bond.”
Hostess Christine Lampard said: ‘Obviously it hasn’t always been plain sailing, a lot of people hated it, especially Camilla because they loved Diana so much. It was always going to be a difficult time.’

Angela agreed, saying: ‘Yeah, they met when Charles was 22 and she was 24 and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to commit – and he also knew he was going to get in trouble with his parents.
“He knew that the first in line to the throne would have to marry within the aristocracy and to one who was still a virgin.
Camilla was aristocracy, but not of the highest order — and she’d been in relationships before.
“They got along very well.”
Despite rumors to the contrary, the Queen and the then Duchess of Cornwall were now Queen Consort Camilla “closely bonded” and shared a love of horses, something Angela Levin saw when she was invited to meet the couple in Buckingham Palace, pictured at the 2013 Trooping of the Color ceremony with King Charles
Angela also spoke about the Queen’s consort’s charitable work behind the scenes, saying her approach is “ideal for Charles.”
She said: ‘Camilla doesn’t light up to be in the spotlight, she’s right in the middle, which is ideal for Charles because he won’t get jealous like his first wife, but who does a tremendous amount of work behind the curtain – she needs no praise for himself.
“What she’s done are things the royal family doesn’t necessarily do to address rape and domestic violence.
‘She also thinks literacy is very important and she travels all over the country to help families who have had many difficulties in their lives – to encourage them to let their children read.
‘She does it with pleasure, it turned out very well. Her book club started with the pandemic, she has built a good people who read now and maybe not.’

The author then recounted the time Camilla invited her and said she had a “surprise for her.”
Angela said, “I got the call to meet the Duchess and of course I dropped everything. ‘
They said she had a surprise for me, but not to get mad if it didn’t – I didn’t know what it was, I thought it could be a box of chocolates, I don’t know.
“I arrived and I had practiced my bow. She was there, the queen was there. They said “come with me” and we went into Buckingham Palace and Camilla was there with the Queen – and they took me to the stables where there was an 80 year old horse expert.
“The idea would be that he would have the ability to make a horse that has never been ridden rideable after 20 minutes without a saddle or something, which I didn’t think was on there, but there you go.”
“The idea of it, they talked non-stop and laughed. I thought after this was so smart and such a nice thing to do. She didn’t have to say anything inappropriate, as there were rumors that they weren’t aware. Without a word, Camilla showed me that she and the Queen were close – which was evident in their shared love of horses.
“I can’t imagine anyone else trying so hard to make my life easier, and it gave me a positive story to work with.”
Christine said, “This book will give us an interesting insight into someone we know, but also don’t know very well.”
Angela said, “The more you get to know her, the more you love her.”
