Daily Show star Roy Wood Jr, 44, will headline the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner this spring in Washington, D.C.

Comedian Roy Wood Jr. will headline this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

Wood is best known for playing a reporter on The Daily Show.

“It will be a great night that will go down in the history books, or not, depending on the state you live in,” the comedian joked in a statement.

He also said: ‘It’s an honor to be part of a long tradition of celebrating members of the media, who work so hard to uncover the truth and hold our government to account.’

This year, the star-studded annual gathering will take place in Washington, DC on April 29 and President Joe Biden is expected to attend.

The comedian currently has a stand-up special on Paramount+ called Imperfect Messenger.

Tamara Keith, president of the correspondents’ association, said Thursday that Wood, 44, brings “a journalistic eye to her comedy.”

Added: “He’s hilarious, but he also makes sure his audience is thinking while laughing.”

Tamara also revealed her goal for the event.

Shared: “My goal with this year’s dinner is to highlight the importance of a free and independent press to a functioning democracy, so I’m delighted to be able to feature a comedian who understands what journalism is all about.”

Last year, the dinner returned as a live event after the covid-19 pandemic halted it for two years.

It also marked the return of the president and first lady in attendance.

Donald Trump opted out of the star-studded event during his time in office.

The shows former host Trevor Noah I speak in last year’s dinnerduring which President Joe Biden mocked himself, Trump, the Republican Party and members of the press.

“I’m very excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than me,” Biden, a Democrat, quipped to an audience of about 2,600.

According to the WHCA website, the event raises money.

“Our annual dinner is our main source of income to fund all of our work, including supporting journalists working to cover the President, events and programs to educate the public on the value of the First Amendment and free press, and scholarships to help the next generation of journalists’, it is pointed out.

And ticket sales are limited.

‘Only news organizations with members are eligible to purchase tickets to the annual dinner. Members receive details from several months before the dinner.

“WHCA dinner ticket auctions and raffles designed to raise money for other organizations or for commercial purposes are against organization policy.”
