Roy Keane was attacked by a fan at the Emirates Stadium while on his way to his post-match duties for Sky Sports.

The 52-year-old was confronted by a man in a foyer as he waited to board an elevator that would take him from the top of a stand to the pitch.

Mail Sport understands that the man headbutted Keane and hit the Irishman on the chest and chin, but was unable to inflict serious physical damage.

Footage circulating on social media shows Keane’s colleague Micah Richards struggling with a man to restrain him, but he had left the area before the guards could arrive.

The incident came shortly after Alejandro Garnacho had just scored a goal that looked set to win the game for United.

Keane and Richards, who teamed up with former Arsenal player Theo Walcott, had raced back to their studio to see what had happened, with the goal eventually ruled out.

The pair were eventually escorted to the field where they could continue their broadcast.

It said everything for their professionalism that they could continue normally.

The match itself that Keane and Richards worked on reached boiling point before the full-time whistle, with the Emirates making a cauldron of noise after an eventful 113-minute action.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United as they took the lead towards the run of play by scoring in the counter-attack against dangerous Arsenal.

Their joy was short-lived as Arsenal answered with the equalizer just 35 seconds later, eventually reigniting the rivalry between two great rivals.

£105 million summer arrival Declan Rice picked up a winner in the 96th minute and thrilled the home crowd, before Gabriel Jesus added a third as United looked for a final equaliser.
