Roy Keane stunned ITV presenter Laura Woods when he described Kevin De Bruyne’s display against Bristol City as ‘sexy’ after Manchester City booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Woods was in the saddle for the Fifth Round tie cover, with Keane alongside Ian Wright punting as Phil Foden scored twice for Pep Guardiola’s men, before De Bruyne wrapped up the 3-0 win to Pep Guardiola’s team.

Speaking about the Belgian’s goal after the game, the former Manchester United player was full of praise for the City playmaker, describing his performance with a somewhat surprising sentence.

Keane told him itv: ‘I love seeing it live. It’s the small details that get it right, in terms of his decision-making, the weight of the pass, he has a goal on him… he’s world class.

“Some of the stuff tonight, this goal, Jack does really well here, the passing weight is perfect and this is pure quality. I said when we were watching ‘sexy football’.

‘The weight of the pass and then, when he receives the ball, I had no doubt that he was going to score. It was like a touch for him. I love watching him.

The comment appeared to surprise the presenter, who did not see the use of the word ‘sexy’ coming out of the 51-year-old’s mouth, and questioned whether De Bruyne anticipated Keane’s description of her display.

Woods quipped: “What I also enjoy is that Kevin de Bruyne will go home, turn on the TV, watch the highlights and wonder how Roy Keane described him.” I don’t think he would have expected me to say ‘sexy’, but here we are!’

Ian Wright was also full of praise for De Bruyne’s goal, but opted to use a more traditional analysis of the goal. Him criticizing the Bristol City defense for pulling back, but also praising the ‘great quality’ of the goal and Manchester City’s performance.

The win means Guardiola’s side are still fighting on three fronts this season, with their title fight with Arsenal in the Premier League, where they are two points behind the Gunners, and their bid to win the Champions League.

They face the second leg of their round of 16, at home to RB Leipzig next month, with the tie tied at 1-1.
